If you really are concerned about electrolyte replacement and don't want the sugars and energy components, look for a drink mix called NUUN. Worked great a few weeks ago on a 100 mile bicycle ride in 90 - 94F weather.

New York Shooters, Register for the Empire State Games

NY shooters interested in trying out for the Empire State Games should go to www.empirestategames.org and register for the tryouts. Add all the events for which you are trying. There will be no Scantron forms this year (finally!) so the online registration is important. Pass the word to your fellow ...

I've been involved in the Empire State Games as a competitor since 1992, and Air Rifle and Men's Air Pistol have been done this way the whole time. If this was put forth by the shooting community, it was in response to limitations, real or implied, set by the State. In 1994 the team size was cut fro...

I don't see a problem with a tightening of the laws in the US (not a ban). I don't really see why everyone and their grandma needs to be able to own an M16... just because. I'm a gun owner and I completely agree with laws here in the Aus that say you can only use weapons for club shooting or for hu...

The black-to white ratio is coincidental. For cartridge rifle, the aiming black and scoring rings are scaled, taking into accout the distance and the diameter of the bullet. I haven't fooled with pistol targets to know about them. Air rifle targets are their own beast, not scaled from anything els a...

For free rifles, yes. For standard and air rifles, no.

The approach we have taken is this: If there are carriers operated by the shooters from position, sighters are only allowed on the first record card. The shooter's feet can be kept in place, so no disruption. Shooting time allotted for the entire match. Some ranges do not have carriers, so non-shoot...

0.01 mm is 3.9 ten thousandths of an inch. Micrometer calipers are available that read in ten thousandths of an inch, but trying to measure something as soft as a pellet to any real accuracy is difficult indeed. The pellet manufacturers use optical metheds to scan and sort the pellets.

So your wrist is bent and the rifle is resting more on the middle joints of your fingers than on the knuckles? If so, it's not wrong if it works for you, but I could see this being more compliant in the vertical direction than the more common approach. You might also inflame the tendons of the wrist...

Probably not. According to NCAA rules, you have four years of eligibility in five calendar years, with an age limit, I believe.

Go to www.ncaa.org and then look for "Eligibility and Recruiting" under "Academics and Athletes".

The 25 mm sight tunnel diameter restriction in NRA International Rifle only applies to Air Rifle and Standard Rifle, not to Free Rifle or Sport Rifle. Rule 3.7 applies to Free Rifle sights, while Standard and Air Rifle sights are subject to rule 3.7 and Figure 2. See http://www.nrahq.org/compete/Rul...

I agree with Rob. At 10 meters, you're not looking for (or through) mirage and the holes just aren't that hard to see. The 50 mm Kowa scopes are small and lightweight and more than adequate. If you move out to 50 yards or 50 m, scope quality becomes more critical.

The comments I've heard from prone shooters are favorable, mostly relating to the thin forearm that puts the barrel closer to the palm of your left hand (right handed shooters). Some position shooters don't like the way the missing area at the lower half of the buttstock leaves that portion unsuppor...

Putting aside the velocity gains and powder burning stuff, the bit of barrel between the leade and the muzzle moves the front sight away from the shooter, resulting in a longer sight radius, making it easier to aim the rifle. Benchrest shooters use shorter barrels than the metallic sight target shoo...

As long as you can show thet you are not a resident of New York City, you're OK. Friends of mine frequently travel in and out of JFK for matches. If you are shooting 50 feet indoors on the A17 target, don't waste your good ammo. Save that for 50 yards and beyond. As Jeff stated very well in another thread, a really good lot of ammo is hard to come by, and you should save it for the longer range matches. The thing to avoid for the A17 target i...
