one thing that may help is to get a copy of the book ways of the rifle.
increasing your tecnical knowlege of the sport will be of some help.
The book has many good pictures and also ideas for training that would greatly help a person in your situation.

Hi Jordan I also have A.A. Yur' Yev's competitive shooting book sometimes refered to as the russian book. I paid about $35.00 or $40.00 for it near 15 years ago. a large price at the time. now out of print it goes for over $100.00 on various websites. But for me the value of the information in these...

Hi Tsokasn

there are several good books out that have great pictures and good discriptions of all the shooting positions.
two books that I like are

1. Ways of the rifle
put out by Mec

2. Position Rifle Shooting
By Bill pullum & Frank Hanenkrat

hope this helps

Tsokasn nothing wrong with a break. If your going to return to shooting in the fall, you might want to find activities that will keep the body and mind in shape for shooting. that way you don't backslide so far and have to start from scratch. Swimming comes to mind it will keep the body in shape, th...

I think you should use what ever works or helps your position.
that said I also think you should try it that way(without the hook) for a good period of time before you decide if it is worth adopting as part of your shotting position or not.

Ryan Thanks again for your posts and point of view. They gave me good food for thought. Your comments have me thinking that drills can serve mutiple purposes. like ingraining of muscle memory. muscle or mental conditioning, trigger control, also the ability to point out flaws in ones' position. I thi...

Hi Ryan Thanks for the reply. Your first post was very helpful and addressed the issue. what I am looking for are drills to use as a training platform to improve various aspects of a position. Such as dry firing to improve trigger control. Balance board to improve balance. Tape on the wall (Vertical...

I probably should NOT have singled out Steve Swartz in my above post. Or perhaps I should have included several other people (all of whom seem to be Pistol Shooters) all or most with Ideas or thoughts that I don't always understand. What Steve and the others do, is they make me think about what it i...

Snookie if you do a search for training drills here on TT you will find a few ideas that are mostly from the pistol shooters. (But they can be adapted to rifle). The searching is rather tedious. Steve Swartz is one of the fellas ideas that I like. I wish I could get more of his training ideas and dr...

Phil I do about 20-30 minutes of dry holding (offhand) in my briefs and bare feet. each day. sounds strange I know but it increases my sense of muscle and balance feed back. Then I put on the shooting coat still in bare feet. now any tense muscle stands out. that extra bit of tension in my toes stan...
