Re: Smallbore & Long/midrange shooting near San Antonio

I believe there is a monthly outdoor SB match just north of Austin near Marble Falls. For MR/LR, I presume you're talking hipower. There's monthly MR and LR at Bayou Rifle Club, which is just south of Houston. There maybe a walk and paste across the course match in New Braunfels but I have not shot ...

I have a Win 52D, similar to what I shot in college over 25 years ago. It does not have any adjustments on the stock. It still shoots well. So I acquired a An1913. Many adjustments possible, but probably the trigger is the biggest improvement. Shooting these two is like the differences in shooting m...

SPG I am well aware that DTubb was a frog. Did not imply that TCU did not have a coed team in the past. Having said that my post was to congratulate the fine job the current team has done. When I shot (in the 80'S) we didn't distinguish sex of the shooter only their scores to determine who was on th...

As a former collegiate SB rifle shooter and now a Fort Worth resident, I am so proud of the TCU womens rifle team...5 years ago they hadn't even made the NCAA finals before. What a strong showing and what a great job the team has done since the arrival of Coach Monez. Excellent individual and team s...

Follow up on the old red box Tenex. Despite the unsightly wax, the rounds shoot very well and are on call. No apparent functional problems with the ammo.

break in barrel

I believe that J. Hollinger, who built your gun recommends to go shoot it. Service rifles do not require a such a fussy upkeep, unlike benchrest shooters. Load a bunch of rounds with the sierra 77 for everything under 600 yds and use a sierra or berger 80 for 600 and beyond. Varget, RL15, or VV N-14...

hold

As you alluded to in handgun shooting, the consistency of the grip is critical to good groups. In rifle, consistency of NPA, sling tension, grip, cheek pressure, sight alignment, trigger control, etc are all critical to shooting good scores or tight groups. It is probably more evident in the .22 LR ...

old eley tenex

thanks for the responses. There is still wax on the bullet, and its still "waxy" to touch. Its not dried or flakey, and its not the oxidized lead. It just looks funny compared to other 22LR ammo I've seen. I did try some out on a recently acquired 1913 and it shot well in gusty conditions ...

old Eley ammo

I have some older Eley Tenex that is about 10 yrs old, well kept. The wax has changed into a gray moldy color though. Should this be of any concern as far is performance of the rounds? thanks
