velocity for SSP

My 103 chronies at about 510 fps. Consistent. No drop off and very negligible variation...less that 2 fps either way ....ever. The K58 was in high 470's IIRC. IZH-46 (not "M") does about 470 as well I think. Works very well for silhouette. The majority of shooters I see at AP silhouette ma...

100 Series and others

The 103 has a unique feature among SSP pistols. The cocking handle can be removed easily after cocking which makes the 103 among the lightest of APs. This may (or may not) be important to you. If your preference leans to more weight/forward balance, it is simple to merely leave the handle in place. ...

Crosman PCP (prototype)

About a month ago, I had a chance to shoot a prototype from Crosman that was loaned to a Falls Twp (PA) Club member for evaluation. A number of us got to try it out at the monthly indoor silhouette match. Observations: -Definitely apparent higher quality build than other Crosman -Fixed cylinder fill...

Hanging free

This free position seems to work well for me in AP and FP. I will mention that I adopted this method based on observing Russ Diatlov. He is a very accomplished shooter and fine coach. (former national team member and has achieved shooting in finals for USAS nationals). I guess due to gravity, if you...

Don't know about your place, but if I put that box on my dining room table, contents might very well be used on .....ME. Smiling. Perhaps you included some cushioning?

Not yet at 565....but

Rifle is a part of my WAAAAAYYYYYYYY back memory. However, recent efforts with the pistol agree with your assessment about concentrating on the smooth, straight trigger and allowing subconscious to take care of the sights. My results improve dramatically when I make the trigger right and let sight a...

Kite is ok

The Kite is a very acceptable pistol. Russ (Midwest Shooting Academy) used a Kite to compete in USAS Nationals...making to finals. M. Nuestrev has competed on international level at Cup matches with a Kite. It will serve the level of shooter behind the trigger. I have never shot one, but almost boug...

Traps and putty (duck seal)

I have a "putty trap" made of 3/4" plywood with slots to insert ISSF targets. there is a trough section at the bottom to collect the debris from pellets that drop from the lead "pancake" and the paper punched out. The several pounds of duck seal that line the trap (about 1.5...

A good coach:

We need more. We are lucky when we can find one. We shouldn't necessarily expect that good coaching is free just because for most shooters, this is a hobby. Qualities in good coaching: Understanding of the mechanics (physical, mental AND equipment) with an ability to observe, analyze and communicate...

Give JimE a try

Hi Tom, Have missed running into you at DSPC. I just got a Walther LGM2-Mini (SSP) from Jim Edmondson for a very reasonable $650. GREAT rifle. And I too, am only dabbling with AR. It's for fun. I used to own a Diana 75 T 01 springer years back and it was a great rifle. They're around for about $500....

I can assure you that .....

the 513T did not cost near that much. It was my first rifle and introduction to target shooting...circa 1960. I used it as a member of my high school rifle team. The others on the line were typically Winchester 52's and a few Anshcutz as well. My parents were not all that affluent and I believe part...

already lost my hair, can't pull anymore out

While this thread spins on, the thought comes to my mind that in addition to air/CO2 cylinders, we shooters all better fret about the reloads and/or factory ammo, the "tinkered-with" pistols and rifles, the QA of lenses in safety glasses and just about everything else we could encounter at...

now we worry about clanking as well as date stamps

Here I thought the clanking of a neanderthal 103/K58 would give a hi-tech shooter next to me peace of mind. What do I know? Will be interesting to see if manufacturers other than Pardini will keep the SSP alive or if it will simply be the used market. And, I think that folks should worry more about ...

Observations for what it's worth

Fact: FWB103 does have a removable aluminum cocking lever AND removing it does significantly alter the weight/balance. For me, that is extremely positive. There is a spring-loaded catch in the lever that releases the engagement to the linkage. Elegant design. Very reliable...and doesn't take 100 sho...

Weights

A very effective (non-invasive) approach to adding weight is to use the 8mm rare-earth magnets available from woodworking catalogs/stores. The come in sets of 10. Assuming you don't have an aluminum barrel, they will nestle right along the barrel and provide no interference to either sighting or cyl...

highlights

Mundane, but one of my "feel good" moments comes as I realize a goal whether in training or at a match. On the singular level, shooting a personal match best in the 2nd relay at USAS Nationals at Ft Benning has to be it for now. The first day was dismal. I simply determined I was going to ...

Among the lucky IMHO

You are fortunate to get the vintage 103. My personal observations of the pistol (secured from our host some months ago) mirror yours. I have and shoot a P44, but since getting it, my 103 sees 95% of the use. The pre-Morini grip fits extremely well and needed no tweaking. The trigger is exquisite. B...

PA Silhouette is challenge/FUN!

These matches are fun, convivial and a definite challenge. As much pleasure as there is from grouping a couple of 10's together on paper, there is a sweet grin that sneaks across your face when one of the critters goes plink and jumps off the rail. Very satisfying. And the free lunch has been good a...
