Another argument was that it was "unfair for all this space to be dedicated for one use". By all accounts, the range is next to a machinery room, and areas of it flood if it weren't for pump systems...not somewhere I'd want to hold society meetings and stuff. Quite apart from that, a footb...

Probably the easiest thing, and possibly the first thing we should do is show our support, and publicise it widely. Funnily enough, there is no announcement regarding the closure of Toronto's range on the Hart House website (although I believe there is some sort of review on Sept 20th, where the clu...

shot Smallbore TR, prone and 3-positional competitively.

Blat some skeet and sporting clays for fun as a change to stationary targets!
Obviously enjoy trying new stuff - plinking with gallery rifles, pistols (when outside the UK!) and whatever else I can lay my hands on!

Don't know about residues and such like - I only shoot Smallbore rifle, but my first couple of sighters are usually blow-off shots while I settle down into position (as the course of fire allows!), then I get into shooting seriously. Maybe just a psychological thing but it's something I tend to do -...

Not to be a voice of gloom, but I don't see a lot of reason for optimism. That's the sort of attitude that will kill it though. If people say "oh, I'll hold off, see if it's dying and if I should invest in an up and coming discipline rather than this one", then of course that discipline w...

Dear god. Four HUNDRED members!? and they want to shut it down! Shows it's a bunch of bigoted know-nothings at the top collapsing to pressure from media and hype. We have forty members and we won't lose our range without a fight (that said, we're the most successful uni rifle club in the UK at the m...

The reason I bring this up, is because the news spot was actually about legislation being introduced in parliament, to allow victims to defend themselves without fear of being charged with a crime. Has anything been enacted? It seems at this point, criminals have more rights than victims in the UK....

Sure, there are anti-gun fanatics. I have run into them. They usually embarrass themselves by being obnoxiously rude in from of onlookers. Larry Quite. We had a thing in the UK called "National Shooting Week" a couple of months ago. Basically the governing bodies encouraged clubs to open ...

Re: my $0.02

You must wear shooting glasses. It is important to have the jacket fit right for you, pants is not as important, OK to be a little loose. I don't have to worry with that faf fortunately (a lot of colleagues either have to set up glasses or wear contacts to shoot). I'm blessed with 20-20 vision. No ...

Classic symptom of excessive pressure, is shots going out between 9o'clock and 12o'clock, so if you get that, you could be pressing down too hard (of course, outdoors, 9-12 is also where the wind-pattern carries shots, so best to get it fettled indoors!)

(1) ammo could not be at the store front of a gun store because it would be near matches or lighters < (c)(3)(iii) > that customers might be carrying and it would be near firearms < (c)(3)(iii)(C) >. Ammunition near firearms? Good grief what next? Maybe they'll not want us to take matches near kind...

So if you want it to work, you really do need some club guns in sizes that fit the kids. Full-size surplus junk is not a workable alternative, especially if you want the kid to come back. I couldn't agree more, I would also add that you need to make time for juniors as well. Try and put some time a...

I imagine it also depends whether the speed causes the air flow around the pellet to be laminar or turbulent flow. Different pellets with differently shaped heads/cross-sections that cause the air to be parted in different ways are, as noted above, going to have different optimum speeds, above and b...

Well, I started 3P last October. Outdoors, I was getting 930s in 3x40 matches after a winter of shooting an indoor postal. This was with club jacket, club rifle, etc - all club kit except my glove. Rifle also had a rubber butt-plate, not a hooked plate, which is not ideal for standing. Anyway, over ...

At our club we usually remove the rear sights but not the foresights. Dunno why, just the procedure that's been used ever since I joined. Guess rearsights are bigger and more liable to be sheared off in event of impact. Bolts are ALWAYS removed, because they're stored with university security (along...

I bet that if you substituted some Eley Standard when a club shooter wasn't looking, he could not tell the difference! My club (Southampton University, UK) is lucky enough to have Don and Mary Maiden as Club coaches. Mary has about 30 years experience as a County coach for Hampshire in the UK, and shooting runs in the family. More to the point, if you don't recognise her name, you should recognise Don's - he coached...
