Re: Smallbore Rifle Backstop?
For .22, 4-6mm steel of 500 Brinell hardness should do the trick. Depending on your range area or what's behind it, you'll obviously want a larger wall or berm behind/around the steel trap to contain any off-shots (NDs or mechanical failures). Ideally if you can vary the target position a little in ...

Re: Practicing with Mid-grade (as opposed to match-grade) Ammo?
Yeah, go for it. I've used RWS Rifle Match for training with good results, along with Eley Match and Team/Edge. Especially for indoor/short-range training where there is no wind and less dispersion. The Tenex or R50 is hoarded for competition or specific training activities where I want to prove som...

Re: 5 rounds magazine in small bore rifle?
As others have said, there's no demand for it - the rules require single-shot loading. Even if you were allowed to use magazines under the rules, they're more hassle than they're worth for no appreciable advantage. The course of fire is 60shots Prone, or 120 shots in 3P - therefore a Prone match wou...

Re: Bleiker vs KK500
I can't speak to low-round counts on Bleiker (Lilja) barrels, but certainly in the last couple of years they seem to have struggled with quality control. Demand spiked and quality seems to have slipped in favour of getting product out the door. I know someone shooting a Bleiker who ordered a second ...

Re: Targettalk is banned
This won't have anything to do with Taco Bell. The staff in the restaurant won't have a clue what you're talking about, much less the access or authority to do anything about it. They'll pay some Managed Service Provider to provide customer wifi. That MSP then implements the access points, usually w...

Sius hybrid the way to go. I know the ones the Cmp use are not Issf legal Unless you're planning on running a World Cup or World Championship...? Who cares? Get the system that's right for your range and for which solid local support is available. We have SUIS in my former club, Brisbane, Australia...

Re: List of Shooting Competition Associations
Many of the links in the Wikipedia post are broken, or do not work as may have been intended. Perhaps those who know what, is what, here, can update them. It's probably worth clarifying that if you're referring to the red links, they're not "broken" per se (a "broken" or "s...

Re: List of Shooting Competition Associations
A place to start- https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_shooting_sports_organizations Being a people's encyclopedia that anyone can edit I suggest we add to their list. I might start by adding NSRA which is embarrassingly missing its own page. Ahem. Though certainly look to expand and improve it....

Re: A Difficult Lesson in Simple Gun Safety
I learned a long time ago there is no such thing as an accidental discharge, only negligent discharges. Negligent discharges and legitimate mechanical failures. However, any harm from the latter are mitigated by non-negligent handling practices. Case in point, I've had an old Martini-action BSA go ...

Re: 50m Free Pistol dropped from W/C
Seems like those running the ISSF have a liberal flavor to them. Take it as you wish, but introducing "all inclusive events to build a cross discipline shooting community" sounds like liberal crap to me. That is feel good BS that I doubt makes many on this forum feel good. It is a smoke s...

Re: Shooting removed from 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games
I am not a Solicitor or Barrister however it seems that the future of a Sport such as Shooting should not be completely in the hands of Committees and Boards unless the decisions are acceptable to a majority of it’s members. This is especially true if Committee level decisions are made that will di...

Re: Be careful out there (see #4)
Rover, since I know the only topics that can hold your attention are alcohol and shooting, think about a company that sells .38 Special ammunition loaded to .357 Mag pressures. A couple of shooters damage their revolvers suffering no personal injury and inform the company of the problem. They do no...

Can't comment on TSA, only bounced around Europe, but I would say that every airport is different, and every airline is different. And airlines will vary from one airport to another... I was once stood at the check-in desk for over an hour in Manchester (UK) because the terminal we flew from literal...

Re: UK ban on .50 cal and Manually Actuated Release System?
I'm with Rover on this one. You Brits got your butts kicked back in 1776 & again in "the Sequel" in the War of 1812. Ah, Mr Madison's war - the one you Yanks seem to think Brits don't know about? So, you failed to invade Canada, despite the fact that the vast bulk of the British milit...

Re: E-Sport - An Olympic Sport??
We gave up 2 events and IOC is reducing our quota places to give way for "Sports" like this: Um, we changed three events for gender equality reasons, and gave up zero quota places for sports like that. We lost quota places for sports that are actually in the Olympics. IOC recognition of e...

Re: UK ban on .50 cal and Manually Actuated Release System?
That'sounds broadly true of any firearm, not specifically .50 cals. There are legal exemptions that allow members of clubs to use firearms without holding a Firearms Certificate (FAC), and for customers/staff on sporting estates, but you can't just give your mate a go. Until this year Tim, The Poli...

Re: Flat tip 22 LR Ammunition versus round tip? Any evidenc
I recall reading a history of Eley's ammo somewhere not so long ago and when they were originally developing the "Tenex nipple" they found that actually, the profile of the bullet's tail was far more important in stability than the profile of the nose, so I suspect you could do quite a bit...

Re: 50m Pistol in 2024
By 2024 it's unlikely that the ISSF will even get more than advisory input on that. Traditionally the IOC has approved at a Sports level. A Sport (Shooting/Cycling/Swimming) is in or out and then they have ratified the programme put forward by the relevant Federation. Word is the IOC are looking to ...

Re: 50-meter Men's Smallbore Prone
50 Meter Prone has been eliminated from the Olympic program much to the anger and disappointment of the American and world shooting community. How come they still have it listed on their site? https://www.olympic.org/shooting As Modena says, it was only recently ratified by the ISSF, and the IOC ha...
