Not surprisingly, just like the .22. The low barrel line makes recoil benign and recovery of aim almost instantaneous. I believe folk have had problems with the extractor flying out - not my experience. The recoil buffer seems to age quickly. In my opinion, a really great, user-friendly .32. Be sens...

I'd start with a barrel that has been made as symmetrically as possible, and properly stress-relieved. Then it would be likely to repond to temperature changes in a repeatable way - ideally, by remaining the same shape. The chamber and lead(e) must likewise be symmetrical and aligned accurately with...

Interesting question. I wish manufacturers would give more explicit information. There are many materials in use for O rings. Some will be attacked by petroleum products. I'm not aware of silicone grease being incompatible with any O ring material (please correct me if I'm wrong - this is important!...

You can't find a "safety", and the manual doesn't show one, because there ain't one! It's a European target pistol, after all...

Rick, I have a book prepared by the Russian sporting gun export bureau, Raznoexport, with general arrangement drawings and illustrated parts lists for several interesting competition rifles and pistols. It's effectively a comprehensive spares catalogue. Included is the IJ-1. Useful info if you are t...

The screw is retained by a 'nut' on the right side of the sight body. This 'nut' is cylindrical and recessed, so you can't get at it. It is slotted. The end of the screw is counterbored and slotted, and the two are peened together at the slot. Dismantling usually writes off the nut. Replacement scre...

Plexreticle, your salesman is completely, dangerously wrong, as are other posters. Bigaaron is completely correct. The pistol is supplied with a red plastic device to fit between breech and front of slide, to hold slide back for dry firing. Snap caps are therefore not required, nor intended to be us...

Is the rubber buffer in the 'locking head' (Benelli's term, not mine - they mean the bit you pull out to let the slide back far enough for removal) breaking up?

You're right, adair, however the recoil impulse from a free pistol, revolver, etc., whilst not varying (significantly) from shot to shot may result in different movements of the gun if the recoil impulse is reacted differently by, for instance, different grip strength. I suppose that's one reason wh...

Hi, I don't have anything to offer on the 'Expert' trigger, but wasn't aware that it was fundamentally different from the later trigger used on the 'pre-Expert'. Incidentally, the earlier trigger blade is supported from below, but hinged from above - just a case of Walther making things complicated ...

I have a late-ish GSP with .22 and .32 barrel assemblies, and both types of trigger. I believe the earlier trigger is favoured. This is the one in which the trigger blade is connected to the mechanism at its bottom. I don't think there's much difference between the feel of my triggers. I suppose a t...

No-one has mentioned Benelli's MP 90 S. I've just acquired second-hand .22 and .32 versions and I'm impressed. Simple, rugged construction. Well-finished. Very low bore-line with respect to arm means that there's very little recoil-induced movement. Reliable. Parts available at sensible prices. Prov...

There's something funny about .38 HBWC and some S&W revolvers. When I got my (used) model 19, 6" barrel, I found that Lapua projectiles with 'target' loads behind them produced huge groups, the outer prints showing tipping. I was then offered some locally-swaged HBWC projectiles which produ...

Cleaning GSP

It's easy to find a manual for the GSP on the 'net (Walther's site), and our host has abbreviated instructions. I'm assuming you have removed the barrel from the barrel / slide assembly by loosening the angled screw underneath, but can't get any further. If this is the case, it's easier to start aga...

I don't know the answer to your question. The problem is that there are (at least) two possible variables - the rifle and the pellets. You might look at the variability with different brands, diameters and weights of pellets. Utter confusion is achievable...

Hmm... So what does it feel like if you retract the slide by hand, with the hammer cocked and the mag. out? The slide should move freely and smoothly, with perhaps some 'creaking' from the recoil spring. I have just done a rough and ready measurement of the force required to retract the slide fully ...
