Re: TOZ 49 in USA??

At some point in the early 1970's, and Englishman (who was a target shooter) moved to Canada and brought his TOZ-36 with him. The barrel had been shortened because somewhere in the UK, it was decided that a 6" barrel with a gas-sealed chamber (almost 2" long) was longer than UIT regulation...

Re: The new Margolin thread

Place an advert seeking a narrower front sight, and wider rear sight. These guns left the factory with alternate parts, so they are out there. Otherwise, as was suggested in an earlier thread: widen the rear sight (but don't do it by hand).

Re: Aguila 22 LR-SE Standard Velocity Ammunition

As I understand it, the velocity of bullets inside a barrel is proportional to the fourth root of the barrel length, Consequently, 1200 fps from a 26" barrel corresponds quite well to about 1000 fps from a 5.5" barrel.

Re: AV 46M opinions

For what it's worth, there is a seller on the Canadian Airgun Forum with a Walther CP1 for sale for $600 CAN plus shipping (if he will ship to the USA). Check out https://www.airgunforum.ca/forums/topic88335.html. Just bear in mind that the CO2 cylinder is required. None-the-less, the CP1 is a prett...

Re: Proper lubrication?

I used pellgun oil on the metal trigger mechanism (sears), and cleaned as much of the grease out of the cylinder as I could. I added nothing to it. The rubber seal on my original Izh-46 lasted for at least 14,000 shots (until I sold it). In theory, silicone oil should help maintain rubber, (it works...

Re: Who makes a nice pellet shaker box?

The greatest value of a shaker box is that you can store the pellets nicely spaced out and easy to pick up. Shakling them just adds micro-dents to them. Roll them in place, and use your fingers to place those last stubborn ones. If you do this, then pretty much all shaker boxes will work. Of course,...

Re: Air pistol practice ranges in Austin,TX

The Covid crisis has resulted in the airgun practices being suspended for the time being. You need to be a member to attend airgun practice. The outdoor ranges are still open, but not really suitable for air pistol. The last time I looked into it, the club at UT was open to UT students (and staff) o...

Re: AP with straight back trigger rather than pinned

The only AP I know of with an attempted straight-back-pull trigger was the FWB-80. It was hinged on two pivots, and the feel was almost perfectly straight to the rear. This systems in gone with the wind. That apparent "improvement" did not work sufficiently well to keep it in use on subseq...

Re: Store with cylinder on or off?

I encountered what seemed to be a very strange situation. I left the cylinder attached fully to my old Steyr LP10. I only removed the cylinder to recharge it. While the air cylinder is in place, the release(?) / firing valve (which allows air to proceed to push the pellet out) is forced shut. After ...

Re: Best powder thrower for .32

I used an RCBS Little Dandy powder measure. There is no rotor made specifically for such a charge at the factory, so I obtained a blank rotor, and a friend with a milling machine drill a hole of appropriate width and depth. I think this was the least expensive procedure. I was only shooting .32 S&am...

As a matter of fact, that distance could easily be less than 1.00 m. 1 m is just under 39.4".

Re: Where were the jury folks?

These shooters didn't show up out of thin air. They had to qualify at world cup levels, where they would have been subject to very close scrutiny. What ever you see in the photos, is either permitted, or would be dealt with. If the apparent faults are not dealt with, there is a good reason for it. T...

Re: Scatt Basic thoughts

You can live fire using a SCATT also, just take care not to hit the frame. There is also a frame for use at 50 m, but it sounds like you want to use the SCATT to practice dry-fire with. The SCATT gives you feedback about your aim, stability, let-off, etc., which live fire alone cannot. You can recor...

Re: Looking for MU55-1m pieces

When the MTs 55-1's were originally sold, they each came with two spare hammers (part 46), but no bar and spring (49 and 50) as it was expected that those parts could be retrieved from the mechanism, and were not prone to breakage. Some years back I sent a spare hammer to a fellow in Belgium. He may...

Re: Eyesight, sights and iris

Probably the biggest problem to overcome is keeping the alignment of the front and rear sights. This requires just the right amount of gripping (not too tight or too loose). Too tight usually results in pivoting at the wrist and resulting in widely scattered shots. Just patiently practice dry firing...

Re: Target Pellet Quality

I think a quick way to get a grip on which pellets have the potential for good precision is simply to get a decent chronograph, set the barrel at the same point each time you fire, and measure the pellet velocity. The tightest group will not occur without the most uniform velocity; especially at lon...

Re: World Cup without tools?

There are at least two possibilities here. Each gun (usually) comes with the tools needed for minor servicing. Those should have been with the athlete, and available if needed during the match. The coach should have had a spare set also. However, there are some shooters and coaches who are without t...

Re: Older Tier 1 SSP and CA/PCP Rifles?

For what it is worth, the old Feinwerkbau 300S rifles (and perhaps Anschutz 380's) are the easiest to cock in three positions. They are not quite as precise as the good SSP's or PCP's, but they require little maintenance, and many of the necessary parts are still available.
