this post has gotten off track somewhat, what was the original post? steve, a smart thing to do would be listen to russ, (putting on flame suit). schedule a class with him, whats the worst that could happen? you have someone well advanced of yourself, in the same country, and available, yet you rath...

sorry al.b just steriotyping to much re, willing to pay for advice. some are not interested in being payed anyway, just happy to help. at elite level, the work is done long before the comp day. the outcome is largely already written. to suggest the athlete determines the outcome is wrong. A swing co...

Well my thoughts are very few people on TT are ready for this coach you are searching for. most just need basic coaching. unfortunately, they also want it for free. My criteria for a coach is basically the same as yours. it doesnt take to long to weed out the text book coaches. not to mention the on...

didnt mean to stir anyone up. I understand where you are coming from bill, simplify everything. this is a good approach. just feel you over emphasis it. I probably sound like I go the other way? 90%-10% is about right, just dont forget you need 110% of the 10% (technique) you dont need 100% of the 9...

shooting tens, simple, doing it 60 or so times in a row at world cup etc little bit harder. If it wasnt everyone would be doing it, then they would reduce the size of the ten again! of course champions are made, not born. but few have what it takes to be a champion. If it was just a matter of traini...

thanks fred, link went straight to it. article was fine. I think he is talking more about talent identification. what some see as raw talent, is not the only attribute you are looking for in talent identification. Talent identification is looking at the individual as a whole, results being the least...

that sounds about right bill. Hi jholtman, I would say it is not as common as you think. yes, dig down and rise above the opposition. but what happens when you are taught to do it the wrong way. not build on what you were already doing, most likely under your supervision he was well on track. may we...

lot of good comments. jholtman, I also took the path of your son many years ago. started competing at 12, beating the seniors by 15, kicked out of junior class as it was decided it was not fair to the older kids!, started competing internationaly on the national senior team at 16, then I was introdu...

Bill, the next question is do you supply your plan to your coach before each comp? also, training and comps are very different, being aware of this should highlight a plan suitable for training, may not be suitable for competition. even as the level of competition increases, your plan may need alter...

Bill, think if you set some small easily acheivable goals, and some more long term goals it will also help with confidence in moving forward. If you cant see any increase, you loose confidence it what you are doing. wanders off? subjective? I know where I'm going, just waiting for you to catch up! r...

Colin, often 9.9's etc come from trying to shoot 10's, and not being comfortable with it. shooting lots 9's keeps you more in your comfort zone, so you tend not to flick wide shots to get you back in the comfort zone. hope that made some sense. I think you need to stop trying to shoot 10's, but good...

Hi david, just shoot the centre out, dont waste time looking for something to cut with. Worked with rifle o/k, still working on pistol. good training technique to work on process, not result. once the centre is gone, you will start to relax as there is no result, like dry firing with bullets. steve,...

steve, looked at my last post, could of been worded better. So not sure which part you are having trouble with. results are the only tangable grading system we have, who cares if you shot a perfect group in the 9 ring. but results are the end product of your process. to veiw a poorly executed 10 as ...

I thinks there is to much assumptions. So steve, your saying bill is using results to see what he is doing, and you are using results to see what to do! This could go on for a while. At the end of the day results are all that matters. In saying that it is all to easy to forget that results are the e...

When I'm coaching, in training a 10.3 is a 9

When I'm practicing, 9.8 looks like a 10. lol
