Re: "Sensive" Trigger Blades for Air Pistol?

In theory, sports science experiments have shown that you are more stable (briefly) if you relax into a position, rather than muscling your way into it. This is why it is recommended to come down into your hold, rather than up. I generally agree. But - to make things more complicated, as usual in r...

Re: Newbie - progression and frustrations

I will add 1x per week of just me time on the range to try and error. Perhaps what he's trying to do is showing you various excercises that you may practise later just by yourself? Anyway, I think you'll benefit from this additional your own/private training session. Unuspervised sessions are OK as...

Re: Newbie - progression and frustrations

it already feels that I need less power to hold it. With my tiny hands, and rather small body frame, this is probably why I couldn't move forward. Actually I think that small size of the hands and body by itself does not have a huge impact (unless we're talking about the extremes that imply severel...

Re: Newbie - progression and frustrations

So far the relief of the pistol sitting tight and not rattling around my hand is overpowering anything else I might notice. Use this feeling as an excuse/opportunity to make sure you're not using too much strength to hold the pistol. Make the brain believe just holding the pistol is enough and sque...

Re: Newbie - progression and frustrations

We managed to play a little with the grip, sandpaper and felt and indeed it fits better. If you stack multiple layers of felt, make really sure you do not end up with something that is soft as a cushion. If it is soft, you won't be able to place your hand on the grip repeatedly in the same position.

Re: Training and match couple in .22?

Well, I was asking about a combination for cartridges. One for training and one for matches. But, could be that not many people make a habit out of this. IMHO people usually don't do that and it's considered a non-recommended practise because if one ammo type is not almost exactly like the other on...

Re: Training and match couple in .22?

Semi auto rimfire guns - pistols and rifles as well - are picky about ammo. Find anything that is not dirt cheap (because then it really might be crappy, with one lot much different than another), not too powerful (not to put too much stress on the gun), works reliably and does not cost an arm and a...

Re: Newbie - progression and frustrations

I will play around, and possibly end up ordering a new one. You may also consider getting an used one, even not perfectly sized, and then use some glue, cork mat, fine file and blade to make it fit right. Yes, it ain't very easy and straightforward but eventually should work. Actually most likely y...

Re: I Need Advice on Improving Consistency in 10m Air Pistol Shooting

practice re-establishing a consistent grip & position until it is automatic & repeatable. We do that with air, rimfire and centerfire pistols. 5 shots maintaining the grip, then 5 shots with "release the grip after every shot and carefully grab again" routine, without taking a loo...

Re: How do you stop beginners from obsessing over the sub 6 hold?

That's exactly what we do here. As a matter of fact, the practical part of the exam that entitles you to apply for a sporting license and then for a sporting gun permit is all about grouping. Standard targets are used, but the just so the black circle can be used as a reference for aiming.

Re: New Top Tier Air Pistol Recommendations

I am looking at purchasing my first pistol for the 10 meter air pistol competitions. Do you have any - and, if yes, then how much - experience in shooting rimfire and/or centerfire ISSF pistols? The reason I am asking is I believe if you do not have a lot of such experience, you are not prepared to...

I do not think I have seen such table. Plus I expect sometimes it would not be easy to tell which variant of say Walther LP500 it is just by looking at pictures/videos from competitions.

To stop neck pain, hold the gun in your left hand out for as long as you've been doing the drill in the right hand, (I'm assuming you are right handed) to help strengthen those muscles as well I would say that in general almost whatever exercise you do that is related to muscles other than fingers ...

But if the shooters group has drifted slightly off of the ten over the course of match, and they've checked off all other factors, I'd assume it's totally reasonable to adjust the pistol sights. Sure, once other factors are excluded it's perfectly OK to use the feature you have paid so much money f...

Well... There is a general handbook rule and there is real world. The rule is simple and is all about straight parallel/perpendicular lines: heels on a line perpendicular to the target, slightly right (or left for the left hand shooters) of the center of the target, feet perpendicular to the heels l...

Re: New(ish) shooter with questions on sightsQuote Gwhite

I would never advise a shooter to not adjust his sights based on shifting groups just because they should be able to stand in the same position in theory. I assume we're talking about shooters that are way past the trigger jerking or wrist/palm/fingers tightening phase. When shots keep grouping but...

Re: New(ish) shooter with questions on sights

Sometimes they don't understand that if they CAN call their shots and they are going someplace they don't like, that fixing it with a sight adjustment is a band-aid that will come back to bite them later. Sometimes people develop a quite consistent bad habit and compensate for it by adjusting sight...

Re: New(ish) shooter with questions on sights

Actually people are able to maintain the same body position for the duration of the whole event, be it 30, 40 or 60 shots. People train how to do this, and train how to stand in the same position every time they begin shooting, the similar way they train how to hold the grip the very same way each t...

You aren't supposed to think of it as a bunch of separate pieces. I agree with you. Actually all I wanted to say was that I see no difference in the number of factors that have to take into account no matter if you use the center hold or the six hold. You want to maximize the symmetry by setting th...

But the most important thing for me is having fun and I'm not easily stressed. Not under pressure either. I am also not very stressed when I know there is no way I'm gonna be in the top six (unless a miracle happens). But when there are real chances that I would be competing for the top three - now...
