Re: Rimfire vs Air - is there a "better" choice?

I do both and send way more pellets down range either from pistol or rifle then .22. Plenty of postal matches for air if you want competition or just log your scores to see how your doing. You may be lucky and have shoulder to shoulder matches where you live. Go air and enjoy.

Re: 10m Pistol League Interest

Good luck. I cannot get my club members to take off the red dot sights. Other clubs around here use the 4-bull target, 5 shots per bull. The Iowa state group is trying a postal match. They send you the targets and you send them back, much like the CMP postal. Anyway, good luck and have fun.

Re: Do You Evaluate Your Shots in a Match?

May as well chime in. Back in the old days, the targets ran on a carrier, one at a time, so you had no choice but to see where you hit. Now in the mid west, it is common to hang a 4 bull target and fire 5 shots per bull. When the back light is right, you can see a hit in the black, not in great deta...

Re: Quietest 10m air rifle?

The Daisy 865 or any of the Daisy underlever rifles are all very quiet, very accurate at 10 meters, very cheap to buy and very low velocity so not much of a pellet trap is needed. They come with a 11mm grove on the receiver that takes red dot or normal scope rings, so its easy to put on optics. Its ...

Re: Olympic quality firearms/air guns manufactured in the US

The Green free pistol had a very short life years ago. Back in the late 1980s, there was a push to make American equipment to use in the Olympics, Crossman made the Crossman / Skannaker air pistol, Federal made .22 ammo equal to or better than Eley 10X. The late Don Nygord won a world cup with it, t...

Re: Pistol in 22LR

I have seen and handled very old H&R and Iver Johnson single shot pistols that were supposed to be old time free pistols. Very light trigger and extremely thin front sight blades. Would have been a real bear to shoot.

Re: FWB P 8X Air Pistol

Put one on a P-44. Used the same base as sold by pyramid airguns to fit the Izzy 46. Had my son-in-law open the barrel holding part with a ball mill bit. easy to do, works great.

Re: Setting up an air sports club, what would people like to

While the formal 10 meter air gun shooting is dead with adults, we do have a very active metallic silhouette air gun program on Wednesday mornings. Normally have 15 to 20 shooters. Plans are to try outdoor silhouette air rifle shooting this summer. A high school ROTC group does use the range on Wedn...

Re: USA Shooting Statement on ISSF Changes

Whether or not the Olympics keep a certain shooting sport or not, is almost immaterial. What should be if concern is the greatly diminished pool of competitive shooters and the dearth of appropriate matches. Back in the day, selection to the US National team was by performance at the National Champi...

Re: partcipation in postal matches.

Well, looks like I'm not the only one who enjoys postal matches. Do not forget that 10 meter pistol competition on Facebook. I had to have my grandkids show me how to get on and enter the pictures. Takes me longer to load the pictures of the targets than it does to shoot them! I think the site maste...

Re: partcipation in postal matches.

I think I heard of your site just before you pulled it. I did send in some scores but results were never posted. I know postal are not the same as shoulder to shoulder matches, but do not understand the reluctance of shooters to participate. Maybe some other shooters would address this issue. The ol...

partcipation in postal matches.

After reading Bob Dye's remarks on air / free targets and looking at how few people take part in postal matches, I thought I'd add my two cents worth. Here in the mid-west, at least in Ill., there are just three ranges that hold international style matches, and the Bloomington range does not have Fr...

Re: Olympic Air Pistol and Free Pistol. Can we maintain bot

More years back than I care to remember, I picked up a few of Bob's air / free pistol targets. At that time, I did not have a readily available fire arms range but still needed to practice Free pistol. I practiced air pistol down the hall of my base housing unit, just trained dogs, cats, kids and wi...

Re: Going to Have an Air Pistol Match for Adults in Wisconsi

Ok Chip, This will be more than you ever wanted to know about a match and may not be exactly according to the rules. If not, Rover will correct me. If you have a target retrieval system, the old string, carrier and some type of motor, just give the competitor 60 record targets, 4 sighting targets an...

Re: Going to Have an Air Pistol Match for Adults in Wisconsi

Where is Bloomer Wisconsin? You might look at the Orion scoring system, score with an optical reader right into a computer for match results. Probably a lot cheaper than the high end system. A few air pistol matches in Il. One or two a year in Iowa. Hope you get up and running. There are quite a few...

Re: How much do you shoot/practice?

Practice as much as you can, but not to the point where it is no longer fun. As to respectable scores, compete as soon as you can, no matter what your scores are. There are plenty of postal events, all on the honor system. Competing in them makes practice more like a real match. Heck, my rifle score...

Did anybody shoot in the 2nd quarter CMP ACES postal program and if so, have you seen the results? Every time I check, just the 1st quarter is posted. I do not want to sign up for 3rd quarter is the program is coming apart. Thanks.

Target Shooting Canada

When I log into the postal match entry section of Target shooting Canada, I get a blank page with the words, too many simultaneous hits. Has anybody else had this problem? I sent an E-mail to the webmaster address but do knot know if it went anywhere. Great site, sure hate to see it go down. Dan Ide
