I'm surprised that there're so few comments about Ernie Rodriguez' suggestions about the Wilson barrel, with its 1-in-10 twist. Larry Carter also has done lots of development work on the 50 yard tipping problem and a custom twist barrel seems to be the answer just about every time. If you can afford...

Silicone-base oil or, even better, lube is the only thing to use. No petroleum products as, over time, they attack the O-rings and deteriorate them. I learned this the hard way, having to disassemble and replace all the rings in my FAS air gun.

You're correct, of course. Matter of fact, I had all but the 601. Don Nygord sold me an extended front sight for the AP at the nationals back in 1983 and it was very good except for its tendency to expand and contract with temperature fluctuations. I sold the 604 after I bought a Steyr, still have t...

Recoil buffer pads and O-rings degrade quickly after they come in contact with petroleum-based lubes. If you "oil" your gun, you can't prevent some of it from reaching the buffer. Better to do preventative maintenance. I stripped my 601 several years ago and found all the O-rings had turne...

www.pistoleer.com has lots of official and unofficial targets at decent prices. The only 5 meter targets they list are for BB rifle.

I haven't found anything cheaper than their prices on B-40, B-38 and B-35, either.

My parts list shows these as a spring for the striking piece and the complete sear.

Hammerli might carry a small inventory of such parts as I've had good luck in the past.

Here in the States, Larry Carter www.larrysguns.com might be able to help.

David - My 602 is even older than the 603! 1979 vintage. The only modification I've made to it is to cut down the firing pin spring so as to allow more energy to hit the 22lr primers. Oh ... and replaced the buffer (which turns to hard wax after years of exposure to air and petroleum) and the buffer...

Had mine since FAS took over from IGI some 22 years ago. Never replaced a spring, never had any parts loosen. The two stage trigger and orthopedic grip helped me into the 850s in conventional NRA competitions. Accuracy at 25 yards/meters is excellent with the right factory or handloaded ammo. The 60...

I think most posters have hit on the important stuff. 1. You'll need an orthopaedic grip for the Model 14. 2. The difference between the 2-stage trigger of the 603 and the single stage S&W is significant. 3. The recoil between the two is also significant, where the lower boreline of the 603 is a...

The price for the Model 2 is excellent, but considering the likely age of the gun, be prepared for some seal/O-ring replacement in the future. Not a big deal.

Boy, I wish I had the time and determination to weigh 100 loads to a half of a tenth of a grain. ;-) I misspoke when I said that BE and W231 do not load with any consistency; I should've said "they load with less consistency than ball powders at low load levels". I used BE, W231, Blue Dot,...

Depends on the gun and what weight bullet you're using. Walthers tend to need a heavier charge than Hammerli SP-20 or Domino 603. With a 98 - 100 grain bullet, I suggest around 1.8 gr W231 for a Walther or 1.6 gr for the others. Of course, I'm not using W231 anymore because it doesn't feed as smooth...

In addition to the special small powder bar, the choice of powder TYPE is critical when looking for drops in the 1.2 - 1.7 grain range. Bullseye and W231 do NOT drop with any consistency; WST and VV310 do. It's a matter of ball versus flake powder.

When I visited the Hammerli factory several years ago in Lenzburg, they gave me a copy of an exploded parts diagram and a 6-page parts list (in 4 languages) for the 104/105/106/107 models.

I'd be glad to share. Contact me by PM off-list.

Other possibilities include the 98 grain Magnus cast bullet and the RCBS/Speer 98 grain swaged bullet. Either will work fine ahead of 1.6 grains of W231 or WST in the Hammerli SP-20 or Domino 603.

1.8 grains seems a bit stiff, but is needed in Walther pistols for functioning.

Larry (LMJ) is correct about the 599 that Don Hamilton fired "back then". If I remember correctly, Don's casual reaction after being told that the match organizers failed to properly register the match was something like "Oh, well. I have plenty of time to do it again" and he mov...
