Re: Well, isn't that special!
Two thoughts on the subject: 1. As US citizens, it's none of our business - including the NRA's. B. Canada has restricted airguns for years, and it doesn't seem to have had a profound effect. And an afterthought: III. Restrictive gun laws in much of the English-speaking world hasn't diminished esse...

Re: Prone advice - Vertical stringing
Lack of follow through can let the rifle droop slightly -- doesn't take much. Also hurrying the trigger often results in low shots. For myself, I find a hard cheek weld (as is common with HP shooters) gives me verticals, as I cannot apply the same exact pressure every shot in long match. A smallbore...

Re: Old Eley Tenex vs. new Eley Tenex
We civilians get what is left over after ALL international teams have had their chance at it. So what you buy a box at a time at the retail level may not approach the Tenex ammo that our Olympic shooters are using. That makes comparisons difficult. Not exactly correct. When Bert Brookes was Chief R...

Re: Old Eley Tenex vs. new Eley Tenex
The new EPS (flat point) Eley has been out for at least 10 years now. Current Tenex is as good as ever (always depends on the lot # and rifle matchup). It has less wind drift at 100 than the old round nose -- enough to be noticeable. If you shot for the U.S. International Team, you would have had pr...

Shoots pretty decent; almost as good as Eley Match in a couple of prone guns. Certainly good practice ammo.

Re: CMP Smallbore at Camp Perry 2018?
Camp Perry and the National Matches were always synonymous. When a shooter spoke of shooting at Perry, we knew it was the National Matches. One without the other diminishes the whole meaning and it will take a long time before Bristol/Atterbury/or wherever will have the same meaning as Perry (if eve...

Quite sure he means 10-32 screw, which is about 3/16" in diameter.

Re: A National Match Discussion
The HP range at Atterbury faces S/SE (last time I was there & doubt it's changed); a terrible direction for shooters. The invite I received from NRA talks up the attractions of that range, but fails to note that salient point. I don't see that as a place to permanently hold National Championship...

Re: Single or dual stage triggers - discussion
I prefer single stage for prone -- matter of getting used to keeping finger off trigger until close. Kenyons, Jewells and a Canjar on my SB prone rifles. 2 stage preferable for standing. I think if I went back to 3P, it would be a 2 stage trigger -- never learned to consistently control light single...

Re: An interesting scope attachment with cell phone
This IS getting interesting.. So apply some of the logic posted above... Is a rifle with no barrel still a rifle? A rifle cannot function as a rifle with no barrel. Can a mobile phone with no sim card still be a mobile phone. A mobile phone cannot function as a mobile phone with no sim card. Maybe ...

The rules affecting gunsmithing were published by the State Dept. and a lengthy discussion can be found on accurateshooter.com and also nra.org.

Re: Need Barrel Advice
16 has been the most popular twist, particular for rifles where 100 yd. is included. Main drawback to odd number of grooves is the difficulty in measuring slug diameter when deciding where to crown barrel. For this reason I prefer 4 or even 6 groove barrels.

Re: Need Barrel Advice
A barrel that can shoot cleans on the F class targets is NOT shot out. How old a barrel is in terms of years does not bear any relationship to how many shots have been through it. It's the mileage and the maintenance, not the year model. Putting a new barrel on is always somewhat of a crapshoot as t...

Re: tight spot in barrel
While you can find large deviations in bore diameter with a rod and patch, smaller ones require slugging, as deviations as small as .0001" are detrimental to accuracy unless the tightest spot is at the muzzle. Barrel makers hand lap barrels using experienced people and an air gage. You can lap ...

Re: Small bore prone scope-ring-reticle recommendations
One of the really good benefits to shooting a scope is instant feedback to your wind calls. 20X is barely adequate at 100 in good conditions. I would suggest a good variable with 24 to 32X or so at the top end to allow for as much power as most of us can use; it will be helpful at 100. You don't los...

I have had many Kenyon round action 54's in my shop, and to date have never witnessed one he silver soldered in place (certainly doesn't mean they don't exist for sure though!). ..... I don't like threading round 54 actions though - the action material is already thin where the forward screw is loc...

I like the Cheek-eez stick-on pads made of black Sorbothane and sold by Brownells. Available in 4 different thickness from 1/16" to 1/4" and 5"x6" in dimensions and you can cut to fit. Works well on sweaty days.

Re: Score drop on match day
Make your practice as similar to match day as possible. Often times we practice when conditions are better -- early in the AM and late in the day when the wind is down. Use a clock and if possible, practice with a friend, making a little side bet so there is something riding on the outcome. Make sur...
