Re: ISSF New Competition Formats

lol what the fuck am I reading? (50m rifle) It started out okay, I get doing 3x20 and eliminating half, and then doing another 3x20 to select down to 8. I totally get that, it saves a lot of time and logistics. but then: c) MEDAL MATCH: This stage is fired in the Standing position, ONLY. • All point...

Re: Surviving muzzle brakes at the range?

Definitely use better earplugs - and make sure you're using the earplugs correctly! If they're foamies, make sure you roll them up really tight, and stuff them wayyy up into your ear before they expand. I see so many people using earplugs incorrectly. You can get away with it for air rifle or 22lr, ...

Re: Precision rifle accuracy / grouping

There's this floating around, but it's more of a test of ammo: http://bulletin.accurateshooter.com/tag/bleiker/ Anyways, even though it's not an ideal test, it's a reasonable starting point if you're talking about strictly rifle accuracy, since that was set up with a sled, rear bag, massive scope ma...

I suppose some people are at a level where 0.2 matters.
i.e. anyone shooting International Air or Smallbore!!!
Yup, exactly.

Here's a video from MEC on it:

Re: centering eye on rear aperture

Right, it's a difference of about 0.2 scoring rings on air rifle, if you get it wrong by the maximum possible amount. Doesn't matter for most of us. I suppose some people are at a level where 0.2 matters. Consistent head placement matters more if you are shooting scoped rifle with no or improper par...

Re: Mantis X10 Shooting Performance System

Use a Scatt instead of a mantis for bullseye.

Mantis is not bad, and gives you useful data, but scatt is quite a bit better. Certainly for air rifle, there's no point in spending $250 for a mantis x10 over a ~$100 mantis X2.

But really, use a scatt instead of a mantis.

Re: Scatt vs live fire scores?

I would argue it's more useful to track the hold times / speeds / etc on scatt, not the actual scores. Scatt scores are full of lies. But the trace, and the numbers for the steadiness of the hold - that's some extremely useful information. And yes I agree with the above - I only track scatt vs scatt...

Re: You rifle shooters have my respect!

I used to shoot respectable scores in 4P and HP, but this is clearly a different animal to me. I feel you, haha. I initially thought I could do smallbore, but so far I've chickened out and am sticking with high power. The 7" 10 ring is so forgiving. I practice on issf smallbore targets, and my...

Re: Recommendations for inexpensive spotting scope

I shoot 22 outdoors at 50 and 100 yards almost exclusively. I use a 20-60x80, I think Athlon Talos, should be under $150. It resolves 22 holes at about 30x, except under certain conditions, in which case you have to bump it up to 40x+. It works better if you're shooting at colored cardstock. It occa...

Re: Glasses vs monocle

I don't know how bad your eyesight is, but for me, having the ability to see (even if only out of one eye) between shooting while looking at other stuff is useful. So the lens attached to the rifle is great for me looking at the target, but then if I need to see literally anything else, it doesn't h...

Adjusting aim off hand

Someone posted this video over on the high power forums, but it's originating from air rifle:

Re: freETarget

The ones you're seeing for 200 yard service rifle are probably only working for supersonic bullets. There's a couple ones like that - SOLO by silvermountain, and shotmarker (?). They're very slick, cost <$1000 (around $800 I think?), and connect wirelessly to your ipad or computer or whatever. They ...
