New shooters - 1 hand or 2?
Our local ISSF league (shooting Std and Sport Pistol) is drawing interest from others at the area rod & gun clubs, who've seen us practising, and want to try it out. Usually they have decent rifle experience but zero handgun. That's because handguns are rare and difficult to get in Canada, To ge...

Re: cheap biathlon alternative....
Does anyone have experience or thoughts on potential of the ISSC SPA straight pull rifle for a niece starting biathlon? I'm asking for a relative (not into biathlon myself). It's available new for CDN$300 (or $330 with carbon barrel) here. 11 mm dovetail on receiver so adding rear sight is easy. May...

Re: How to break into Olympic competitive pistol shooting
Personally, I started by learning to shoot 2 handed with a decent rimfire pistol (S&W Model 41) at shorter ranges. For most of us (certainly for me) it is very difficult to start by trying to shoot one handed at ISSF rimfire distances (ideally 25m, more often 20 yards on reduced targets). That w...

Monocle or Monoframe?
I'm planning to get an Anschutz monocle or monoframe and wonder if anyone has a recommendation. As shown here: https://www.nordicmarksman.com/Shooting-GlassesMonocle.html For context, I'm a 60ish club level so-so shooter using Match 64 and now 54 wood stock rifles (both older) with stock Anschutz si...

Handstop for BSA 12/15 rail?
I've acquired a nice Martini action BSA 12/15. It's not quite as accurate as my two (older) Anschutz rifles (64 and 54) but close. I'm wondering how to fit a handstop to the BSA, to take a sling. Its rail is narrower than the Anschutz rail, and is not open at the far end to enable the hand stop fitt...

I use a pair of yellow lensed flip ups, around $10 on Amazon, with a strip of scotch tape on the non-aiming side. Works fine.

Re: US Based Walther CP2 Overhaul Options?
I bought an one a while back, not functional, and had it overhauled by Harvey Lavigne at Airguns Plus in Birch Hills, Saskatchewan. He's the official Walther guy for air pistols and ISSF firearms in Canada. Recommended. A CP2 is not a firearm under Canadian law (under 500 fps) so there is no need fo...

Re: Sight Image
I've always understood that your #1 is a sub-six hold, and your #2 is a six o'clock hold. People use both. Others put the top of the front sight right where they want the point of impact to be. The highest scorer I know does it that way. I'm told that's helpful because you don't have to adjust your ...

Re: ISSF pistol shooting at risk in Canada?
If the law is put into effect, what happens when the original owner passes on? Since "transfers" are forbidden, the next of kin cannot inherit. Does the government get the guns? What about compensation? Dennis, aka Dulcmrman Good question. It looks like 22LR pistols can continue to be tra...

Re: ISSF pistol shooting at risk in Canada?
Nobody will be allowed to acquire any handguns (new or used), with an exception for Olympic disciplines. The proposed statute says the ban on acquisition does "not apply in respect of an individual who .... meets the prescribed criteria and provides a letter to a chief firearms officer from a p...

Re: Tell me about target grips for S&W 41
I bought a pair of Herrett "National" grips, with the adjustable palm shelf, from Champions Choice for my Model 41, for about $90. Definitely a big improvement over the stock grips. Now out of stock, there and elsewhere it seems. For me the Model 41 is less accurate than my DES 69, which a...

Re: Shooting glasses for newbie
As a bifocal user, with myopia and astigmatism, for shooting I'm happy to have a spare pair ground solely in my distance prescription (same as the top half of my bifocals), in ordinary frames. They let me focus on the front sight, or the target. With a pair of yellowish plastic clip on flip ups, plu...

Singing in the Rain
Sorry, I meant shooting in the rain. A constant experience here in sunny Vancouver. Rain forest doesn't begin to describe it. A few of us shoot ISSF Std and CF/Sport pistol regularly. We're under cover on the firing line, but the targets aren't. We have to use simple target stands made from corrugat...

Re: WEIHRAUCH HW 75 or HW 45
Thanks for all the info for why not to get a HW 75. My point is to assist my BE shooting with a modest expense. Yes I know, "buy once, cry once" SSP is my choice to avoid, tanks, pumps, temperature issues (CO2), etc. I owned a IZH 46 for over 10 years and it never really filled the bill a...

Re: WEIHRAUCH HW 75
For the price of a new HW 75 or less you may be able to find a used Walther CP2 or CP3 CO2 pistol which will be infinitely better. LIke this one: https://www.bradfordsauction.com/auction-lot/walther-cp3-.177-cal.-co2-air-pistol_8594A89958 The Walther would probably cost less tho you may need to have...
