Re: New member, with a few questions and a "what would you do?" Scenario

I agree with the advice to get an air pistol first. Then...it's a tossup. You can still find Toz-35s for $550 or so, but expect to toss the grip blanks and spend $250ish in grips. On the other hand, a Morini CM84E is great...but expensive. Of the free pistols, I would buy those two. They were the se...

Re: Why are Bullseye shooters such pussies?

Rover, it's a longstanding problem. At least 25 years old, possibly more. I think part of the problem is that the precision disciplines demand patient, loving practice. Especially once you're onto the flat part of the learning curve. Shooting a 500 in AP is easy. Shooting a 550 is hard. Shooting a 5...

Re: Who has Rink grips on their Toz35M?

I've found that grips are much like shoes...regardless of size, not all makes fit you perfectly. Nill grips fit me wonderfully...Rink and Morini much less so. It's not a matter of workmanship, but of the basic shape.

Don't get me started on that damned laser-tag toy. Someone in the international Modern Pentathalon federation got paid off.

Re: Break Dancing

I wish I could say I was surprised. But with NBC Sports effectively owning the IOC, they are going to put on what they think will be telegenic.

Personally, I would much rather see the MLAIC events. Although that would demand a significant effort. Bringing back FP will do.

Re: The future of shooting jackets/pants after the olympics ?

I really don't think they'll have the nerve to ban the shooting jackets and pants altogether. If we were starting from scratch, they would probably be prohibited...but everybody has bought them, then bought rifles weighted for a shooter wearing them. Ditch the support "space suit", and eve...

Re: The future of shooting jackets/pants after the olympics ?

If you are expecting significant changes, wait. No sense spending money on kit that is about to become obsolete. There are RF shooters who are still ticked about the .22LR switchover.

Hmm...that's one I'd argue. Especially considering the degree of support provided by rifle jackets, trousers, and boots.

Re: What New Free Pistol

Honestly, my advice at this time would be a Toz-35M. Actually, two Toz-35Ms. Provided they fit...the only issue I have with mine is that the trigger reach is longer than I'd like. But you set one up as a shooter, the second is a parts locker.

Re: For olympic 10m pistol, how do people use up the entire 75 minutes for 60 shots?

Nowadays you ought to train for a "finals" match also. That didn't exist in the old days. Yup. This is one of the biggest differences between the cartridge and muzzle-loading disciplines. Black powder shooters have ten, perhaps thirteen shots...even at a World Championship level, those th...

Budget around one minute per shot. Actually, you may shoot a bit quicker...or you may need to sit down and collect your thoughts after a bad shot.

Re: Who shoots other disciplines?

My primary disciplines are muzzle-loading. MLAIC, and North-South Skirmish Association. ISSF, particularly 10m AP, is my winter and inclement weather training option...and my winter competition, where I get humility beaten into me. :-)

Re: Is it just me or is this forum slowly dying ?

The irony being that if you read the old books on combat shooting, they all advised a solid grounding in the precision disciplines. ISSF and Bullseye are the equivalent of ballet - they lay a rock-solid foundation on which to build, whatever direction you take.

Re: Olympic Pistol = Precision Shooting

I'm in it for the joy of competition...and once in a while, the joy of victory. In 1976, the U.S. sent its first team to the World Muzzle-Loading Championships. I knew some of them - and they came back with stories of traveling to distant, exotic lands. Meeting exciting, unusual people. And winning ...

I don't know for sure, but at this point I would not travel for any event. The odds of your planned destination being shut down are too high.

About the same. Probably the bigger issue is to keep the outside of the eye hydrated. I've been on eyedrops for ocular hypertension for the last dozen years. They work, but they also tend to dry the tear film. So wetting drops come in handy.

Re: Can anyone convince me to keep using center hold for 10m?

I shot center hold for a long time. It worked...on a range that was not covered, with a front sight painted bright orange. Shot good scores. But when I started shooting MLAIC events, the rules forbade sight paint other than black or white. I went to a six o'clock hold, shot some good scores. Then wo...
