Can we improve clearance into the USA when travelling w/firearms?

Rant here...I'm a member of the U.S. International Muzzle-Loading Team, have been traveling overseas with firearms to competitions for the last 25 years. I've never had issues getting into any European country, unless you count the German Customs official who was a fellow BP shooter and wanted to ch...

Re: Suggestions for Airline Pistol Cases

I'm fond of ICC cases. I had them run me up a custom case fifteen years specifically for international travel, and it's held up nicely.

Re: Commonwealth games

If 5 shot rapidfire airpistol comes in after Paris (strong rumour only), may be they will include it, who knows! Oh no, another nail in the coffin of guns that go bang! Bob Which is why ISSF has been so very careful to strangle RF Air. And I think they are likely to continue to do so - rightly, in ...

Re: Best pistol for 10m International AP?

Hmm...At the Olympic level, the Steyr and Morini seem to have the upper hand. That being said, all the top-tier guns are pretty well equal in performance. The real issue is finding one that suits your hand and eye. WRT grips, while you will do some fitting, it helps to start with a grip that comes c...

Re: Fresnel Lenses, Cataract Surgery, and Sight Picture

I had cataract surgery a couple of years ago. When the doc found that I was a shooter, he recommended monofocal IOLs without hesitation. I went with that, plus LASIK for fine-tuning and correction of astigmatism. Distance vision is now 20/20 or better. Yes, I need reading glasses...but I used to wea...

Re: Simulating nerves in training

The key is to stay relaxed and focused in competition. And believe me, I am the LAST person who will criticize anyone for match nerves - it took me a good decade shooting at the World Muzzle-Loading Championships before I started to even crack the problem. It helps, a lot, to stay focused on the sho...

Re: The New ISSF Air Pistol Finals Format

I agree that commentary would be a Very Good Thing. Especially if you went to a finals format where each shooter fired one shot in sequence (to allow for commentary). But the simple truth is that the precision events are not terribly spectator-friendly. What I find intriguing are the experiments bei...

Scoring overlays for B-17 target?

Does anyone sell a scoring overlay (extends the scoring ring through the bullet hole) for the ISSF precision target? Sold in the USA as the B-17, the Free Pistol target? Thanks.

Re: Anyone heard of this Olympic shooter?

Certainly. One of the few Americans to medal in a pistol event. Later shot, briefly, with the U.S. International Muzzle-Loading Team, IIRC.

Looking over the 2021 WADA doc and List: Cortizone.....compete in pain or else Insulin .... Go into diabetic shock and die or else Prednisone ... Scores of medical uses on AND off label. Use a substitute...guess what..there are none WADA legal Tamoxifin ..... Ladies, have an early breast cancer dia...

Don't panic. The military uses a considerable amount of black powder. I expect that Hornady will sell the Goex operation and that production will resume.

If you're in the USA, getting support for a Tesro might be difficult. I don't think they have a representative in the USA.

Re: Surviving muzzle brakes at the range?

The military is finding that blast damage is occurring in teams training with high power rifle. At this juncture it is simply not known where the threshold lies for traumatic brain injury caused by weapons muzzle blast wave forms. The firearms community is pretty much “just grow a pair- rifles are ...

Re: Bullseye and competition pistol shooters: Canting your pistol?

If you extend your arm as far as it will go, you will find that most people have a bit of a cant in the hand position. 20 to 30 degrees. The problem is that the guns aren't set up to accomodate this in the sights, and it's a lot easier to turn the hand than to do the sight mods. I dare say that with...

Rover is right. Look for something secondhand, but in good shape. WRT to service, I'd rate Steyr and FWB as the best, Pardini now has support in the US as well.

On the other hand, a gun that will shoot well at 100 yards/meters will shoot well at shorter distances.

Re: Shooting in the Olympics...

The real problem with shooting, as with many other Olympic sports, is that they need expert commentary. Which is not going to come out of NBC Sports. Hell, the fencers can't get the time of day from them, either - so it's not just shooting.

Both! Under MLAIC rules, they are different events. Although having shot a matchlock, I'll say that they are both harder and easier to shoot than you think.

Did the surplus Toz-35's evaporate?

I was considering buying a Toz-35 as a spares set for my Nygord-tuned Toz. They were going for $500...but not any more. The supply seems to have evaporated. Six weeks ago, they were readily available.

What's up?
