Re: Proper use of spotting scope
Cecil, good response. I've gone to practicing without the scope and shooting for group size. Its easy to adjust where the group is hitting once you get a consistent good shaped group. In matches, I've taken to checking the scope on the first couple slow fire shots and then adjusting sights if needed...

I have a signature over on another forum that gives me pause when I consider dropping money on hardware. Re: Federal .22 automatch
Lots of great info on the Buckmarks over at rimfire central. Mine digests anything SV, have you had it apart to check a few things? One of the somewhat-common ailments is that the pre 2000 buffers can disintegrate and get stuck in the works, robbing power from the recoil action. Another is a bent re...

For giggles, the .22 isn't the defacto civilian target pistol anymore, nor is the .38 the police standard anymore. So would that make a 2700 90 shots each of 9mm, 9mm, and 9mm? ;-)

Re: Why we still shoot the 45?
i prefer to not shoot the 45 Anybody in favor for allowing a 9mm for the 45 match? As a new BE shooter, the .45 is hard for me to tame (but getting better every outing!), which is part of the challenge. If the 9 is preferable for you, just shoot an 1800 and skip the .45 matches - or work with the m...

Re: Problem with a Walther SSP
Does the round drop easily into the barrel? It sounds like the chamber may be slightly undersized so a "second" round needs to be forced home - igniting it. Did you compare the OD of the Club and Fed (unfired) vs the ones which did not double. If the OD (just before the rim) is larger, you...

Re: Inconsistent groups
To rule in (or out) the heat issue, take a heat gun to the range. Shoot 10 shots on the cold barrel and then heat it with the heat gun. If your accuracy falls off at that point it is something moving with the heat expansion. If not, you get to test what else can be different at the magic 25th shot. ...

Re: Parallax error- Optics - 50ft
So, a couple more questions. I assume you place the ring so that the red dot appears centered in it. How do you get it there without endless placement/re-placement? it doesn't matter, you are going for repeatability 0 - get close and you are good to g o I guess the rear location helps that by simpl...

Yes. I tried both front and rear, rear was much better.

Re: Parallax error- Optics - 50ft
I've been waiting for the right time to post my solution to this. I had the same concern and did a lot of research for a stick-on reticle. I finally found what I was looking for at Lancaster Archery. It is a frosted reticle which allows the 4 arms to be peeled off leaving only a circle. I line the d...

I did the math too and came up with 1/2 of (.45-.22) or the same as youDavid Levene wrote:Surely that should be .115"dronning wrote:With the same exact center of shot the .45 only gets you .23" closer to the scoring ring because of it's larger diameter.

Re: Pistol Dry-Fire Practice
Dry firing with spent cases does not work in either of my .22s as the case has expanded too much to rechamber. I use dry wall anchors. I have developed the habit of cutting off two opposing sides of the anchor rim so that the anchor A) can stay in place as the ejector has nothing to grab onto when r...

Re: Rifle guy with some questions
Follow Dave's advice. For dry-firing my Buckmark, I cut a flat off the "rim" of the anchor so that the ejector has nothing to grab onto, then I can cock the pistol for a second, third, etc. dryfire without needing to find, pick up and rechamber the anchor. That way my grip does not change ...

I have been rehabbing my elbow for a year now and have to be careful with pistol shooting. Mine started from lots of sportbike motorcycle riding. Here are a few suggestions. Shock Doctor makes a great elbow ice wrap with three ice packs in it. I think they label it for something other than elbow. Po...
