two points to add to Derekm's post - not everybody has/needs the same script for both eyes. - no need to 'white out' (or whatever method you use) the entire non-shooting eye lens. There are advantages to having the same light levels to each eye. Frosted tape on that lens to cover the target and sigh...

Just as important as adequate width is space behind the firing line. Eight feet for the shooters and at least another six for gear and match operators to walk would be nice. In support of JohnD, 6.3.6.5.1 Space must be provided for spectators. This area must be separated from the area for shooters ...

Thanks Fred. I tried your suggestion but windows media player popped up and said it could find the file. Maybe it's been removed? It's still there John - do you have a phishing filter turned on? If so it will take quite a while to 'clear' Ed's website before the file starts to open. A better soluti...

Fred's Red

anybody have (or know where to find) the formula for Fred's Red?

while tidying up the garage I have come across a gallon of transmission fluid with Dexron, which started me recalling 'Fred's Red', but I cannot find my copy of the formula (from many years back)

maybe the coordinates given above for the shooting hall are a few hundred metres off, 39°56'47.06"N 116°12'12.64"E gives the middle of the 50M range.

withdrawal symptoms - who, me?

1 my home club is closed until 7th next month 2 the usual backup facility (olympic range) is closed until 14th next month 3 last shooting was last Wednesday shake in hand, headaches, cold sweats... RELIEF!!!! 5 hours at a range that was 'open' - some 50 yards to sight in the Service Pistol, some 7 y...

hindsight

with the wisdom of 20/20 hindsight, bleeding off the excess should have been bleedingly obvious, but I had never had any problems of this type before and suspected everything else. another 10 or 15 sighting shots might well have dropped the CO2 to a proper level, but... just another item to add to m...

If CO2 vaporizes at a constant pressure, varying with temperature, why all the concern with overfilling the cylinders? You will know WHEN it happens - I too never bothered weighing the cylinder, but in this warmer climate (particularly in summer) I would fill the cylinder, dump the gas to chill the...

Thanks. I guess "encircle the hand" isn't necessarily all the way around. Steve More than that - the grip may not come past 90 degrees (rules 8.16.9 and 8.17.0 at http://www.issf-shooting.org/rules/english/2006/25_pistol_2005_2nd.html ) There is a difference to the 25M rules in that there...

If you care to e-mail me or leave a PM on this site I can pass on the basics of scoring and techniques for RFP, rather than go into an explanation on the board.

1 the word 'weapon' does not appear ANYWHERE in the ISSF rules. 2 there is no ISSF rule relating to "some indication has to be there for which some kind of thread attached to a red flag is inserted in the barrel", or any such. Some national shooting organisations require these, but the ISS...

back to the original question

Particularly follow Ed Hall's references - particularly http://www.nygord-precision.com/grips_b.html

Even with "proper gripping technique...(confirmed by coaches)', if the grip sets up the pistol at the wrong angle (horizontal or vertical), get it fixed.

Re - "When is the time to ignore sight picture and concentrate on sight alignment and trigger release ?"

Why would you 'switch' from sight picture to concentrate on sight alignment and trigger release?
These are all parts of the process, not steps to progress along.
