Re: Smallbore for teen
If hardly anyone mentions Walther, you must live in an alternate reality! All kidding aside a Walther KK500 should be on the list of rifles to look at. Turbo being popular in your area makes sense as the Turbos are assembled by DiOrio Mfg. in Virginia. They've been around for several years now and w...

Re: Major Biathlon Rules Change
Hey! Doesn't Ms. Wierer speak three or four languages? Seems like I have heard her in German, English and of course Italian. Impressive on the course and in interviews! Dorothea is from Bruneck which is in the north of Italy very close to Austria and Liechtenstein. So they all grow up speaking both...

Re: Major Biathlon Rules Change
I was hoping that the rule change would force Dorothea Wierer to defect to the USA where she would have to give shootin’ on the fly lessons to old fat guys like me. Hey, it’s called Goal Setting! I see we're both living in the exact same false realm of reality. All I can say is that Dorothea Wierer...

Re: BMW IBU World Cup Biathlon - Soldier Hollow, Utah
Thanks for posting. Did you have fun? Biathlon is such a fantastic sport to do and or watch. That is why it is one of the most watched sports in the world. Too bad North Americans just don't get it. Watch a euro biathlon and the Superbowl looks small and definitely not nearly as exciting. Yes, I di...

BMW IBU World Cup Biathlon - Soldier Hollow, Utah
If this is more appropriate in the Biathlon section of the forum please go ahead and move it, although it doesn't seem that section gets much traffic. I had the pleasure last week of attending the IBU World Cup Biathlon event at Soldier Hollow, Utah as a guest of the U.S. Biathlon Association. As a ...

Re: Re-Barreling a Walther KK500?
If you can connect me with Howard, that would be helpful as I don’t know if a gun smith near me. Feel free to PM me his number. The used kk I know of could be had for a little over $4K & depending on the cost of re barreling it might be a possiblility vs buying a new one. Montana - i've sent yo...

Re: Re-Barreling a Walther KK500?
Howard Pitts has re-barrelled KK500s for Ed Foley. I believe he's located somewhere in Tennessee. Contact info can be provided if you need it. J Jober, Is he the Howard Pitts who shot on the US Roberts team last year? So he's a good shot, and a good gunplumber. yes I believe that is the same Howard...

Re: Re-Barreling a Walther KK500?
Unlike older / traditional target rifles that have their barrels pinned, clamped or screwed into the action KK500's are glued in with epoxy and a very tight fit. The action needs to be heated up significantly for barrel removal/insertion. Not sure if most gunsmiths do those kinds of barrel changes ...

Re: A comparision of loading ports between the various rifle
Although I am not a precision shooter, another thing I'll note is that it seems like the loading port is only half of the equation -- isn't the location of the bolt handle (and length of bolt travel) just as important? It seems like the important factor is that the non-Anschutz manufacturers have m...

Re: A comparision of loading ports between the various rifle
There isn't a conventional loading tray either. The bolt has three locking lugs at the front, with in-built horizontal extractor claws. Best guess is that the lugs are part of an outer rotating sleeve a la Bleiker and Grunig. The loading tray is formed from the parallel guide rods that the bolt run...

Re: A comparision of loading ports between the various rifle
Thank you Tim, I'm not able to see the Stirton photos, but I saw the ones provided by Svensta on another post. Based on the limited information from that photo it looked like there is still a load tray in front of the chamber, so one can conceivably still just place a round on the tray and push it f...

Re: A comparision of loading ports between the various rifle
Hmm, the diagram of the FWB 2700 is a little optimistic. The rear/breech line seems to be where the bolt handle is when open. The chamber is actually above the trigger, just inside the back of the receiver. Still it's very short, if very fiddly. I'll revise as necessary, once I can see one up close...

Re: A comparision of loading ports between the various rifle
Regardless of whether it's in relation to the trigger or pistol grip, closer is better.groverdog1 wrote:Given we are all built differently, different lengths between the buttstock and pistol grip, should you not focus on the distance the loading port is from the pistol grip.?
