Match Ammo in Bay Area

Anyone know of a source for match ammo (Eley or Lapua) in the S.F. Bay Area? I need some for this weekend and don't have time to get it from Champion's Choice.

I thought all cartridge handguns were banned in the UK? Did this change?

Free Pistol in the Bay Area

Anyone know of a range in the S.F. Bay Area that has a 50M (or 50 yard) range for free pistol? The range closest to me in Concord (USI) has a 50 yard rifle range, but they don't allow pistols on that range.

Re: Returning Shooter -- Gun Options

After a lot of research, I've gotten my shortlist down to the Walther LG400 Alutec Expert and the Feinwerkbau 800X.

Which of these brands has the best after sales support and service in the U.S.?

Re: FWB 300S PARTS?

I have a 300S that I should probably overhaul too. Does disassembly and reassembly require a spring compressor? I wouldn't attempt to disassemble my Beeman R1 without one, but a match rifle like the 300S might not require one.

Will Carpet Stop a Pellet?

I'm setting up a 10M range in my hallway at home and have made a pellet trap from a steel electrical junction box filled with duct seal putty. I tape paper targets to a piece of cardboard mounted to the front of the box. The box is mounted on a stand at one end of the hallway. My wife is concerned t...

This seems counter to my empirical results. I have a friend who has a PhD in optics -- I'll ask his opinion.

Thanks. I'll read Ways first and then the air rifle book.

Book for 10M AR Shooting

Quick question: is the book "Air Rifle Shooting" a supplement to "Ways of the Rifle", or is it a stand-alone book?

Should I get both, or is the air rifle book sufficient by itself?

Re: Eye Position Relative to Rear Sight

IIf your eye is too close to the aperture, you lose some of the depth of focus, but if your eye is too far away, the sight picture may be too dark. In my experience, the closer my eye is to a small aperture, the more depth of focus I have. I just tried an empirical experiment. I used a pin to punch...

How do Shooting Jackets Work?

In the case of 10M air rifle (always shot standing), how does a shooting jacket work? I've always heard that it increases stability, but I can't see how it does this. Is it accomplished by restricting the shooter's movement?

Eye Position Relative to Rear Sight

How close should my eye be to the rear sight on a 10M rifle? I've always gotten as close to the sight as possible -- is that correct?

Shooting AP at 5M Instead of 10M

I'm getting back into air pistol after 20 years and a house move. At my former house I was able to set up a full 10M range with room to spare. In my new place, I can still squeeze in a 10M range, but it's awfully tight and I'd literally have my back to a wall. What if I shoot at 5M instead at reduce...

SCUBA/SCBA Tank Fills in SF Bay Area

Anyone know of a place that does 200 bar and/or 300 bar tank fills in the San Francisco Bay Area? Preferably in the East Bay?

I'm just getting back into shooting after a 20 year absence and the dive shop I used to use closed.

Re: Returning Shooter -- Gun Options

Personally I think the Walther LG400 is the best pick of the current guns, Any particular model of the LG400? A quick Google search turns up several: Alutec Expert, Alutec Competition, Anatomic Expert, etc. I would not consider using an EST unless you can be sure that you are going to hold the blac...

Returning Shooter -- Gun Options

I'm returning to 10M air rifle shooting after a 20 year absence and I'd like to replace my old gun with something more modern. I currently have an FWB 601, which is a single-stroke pneumatic. It's a nice gun, but I want a pre-charged pneumatic with more stock adjustment options. What are the current...
