Re: Finding NPA after each reload
Gentlemen Id like to spend less time on finding the NPA after each reload, when the elbow comes down again on the mat Im too often way off center. This sometimes gets me into time pressure late in matches. Any tips on this reload-NPA issue? I had similar problems with NPA which were mainly caused b...

Re: Lens in Anschutz rubber eyecap
Thank you all for your helpful replies. Sadly I'm not (yet!) shooting under ISSF rules, and I only have an almost immeasurably small astimatism which doesn't appear to affect my sight picture at the moment. Is it possible to use one of the lens holders that clamps to the back of the rear sight at th...

Lens in Anschutz rubber eyecap
Are there any disadvantages to putting a correcting lens in an Anschutz rubber eyecup like the one shown below instead of using shooting glasses? Does anyone else use this setup? http://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0676/8355/products/Rubber_Eye_cup_large.jpg?v=1417621784 I am considering getting the us...

Re: eye relief
Please could you explain why this is the case, as it seems to be counter-intuitive.KennyB wrote:With a variable rear iris, opening the iris up doesn't alter the gap you see between the foresight and rear peephole.
Many thanks.

Re: GE600 Evolution Stocked Rifle Testing
Thanks Tim. It's difficult to tell from the small pictures on their websites, so I'll see if Google can find me some better pics of those.Tim S wrote:From memory the Thune and ESP, which are based on a Russian design, do allow the rifle to recoil being set on oiled bearings.

Re: GE600 Evolution Stocked Rifle Testing
Eley test at 50m, what's interesting is that it's from a recoiling rig. Normally it's barrelled action clamped in a vice. Has anyone got any photos of the type of recoiling rig Eley use, or any other such rig? I'm thinking about making something for use at our club. I can find details of things lik...

Re: cleaning upside down
Over the years I've seen lots of warnings to make sure you don't get solvent seaping down into the trigger mechanism or between the receiver and stock while cleaning. This makes complete sense. But I've never seen anyone suggest laying the rifle upside down while cleaning, i.e. horizontal but with t...

Re: Standing Revelations
Curious. What realization about your position or technique in standing allowed a breakthrough that led to great improvement. It might seem blindingly obvious, but my breakthrough was stopping myself pulling the trigger when my aim was going off the bull. To explain a bit more, I've generally been f...

Re: Relation between eye relief and rear aperture size
Eye relief will have almost no impact on focus for a fixed aperture.... Thanks Art for taking the trouble to answer my question about focus, and a whole lot more. That's encouraged me to continue experimenting with the position of my current fixed aperture until I get an adjustable one, to see how ...

Re: Relation between eye relief and rear aperture size
I see. With relatively new UK shooters, I usually assume indoor ranges. Is this an open 25 yard range or 50m/100yds? Whatever the distance, with an outdoor range an adjustable iris and bits will be more useful than on a totally indoor range. I'm going to disappoint you and say a fancy iris won't gi...

Re: Relation between eye relief and rear aperture size
I think it's a typo for "a simple adjustable rear aperture". I agree that concentrating on building a steadier position is sensible, but having a fancy iris unit won't hurt you. If you shoot primarily indoors you won't use polarisers, nor many colour filters (although yellow-green can imp...

Re: Relation between eye relief and rear aperture size
I think a simple rear aperture is the first thing you should buy after you buy a gun. Hi redschietti, What do you mean by "a simple rear aperture"? I thought that's what I've got, i.e. a fixed 1.2mm aperture. I was thinking that after I've developed a good, consistent position, etc and ha...

Re: Relation between eye relief and rear aperture size
What I suggest you try is : while aiming, move your head around very slightly so you are looking through different bits of the peephole - don't worry about whether the foresight is central in the peep, just look for the clearest, sharpest image of the ring and aiming mark. THAT is the sweet spot an...

Re: Relation between eye relief and rear aperture size
Hi Kenny, Another great explanation, thanks, and still with you so far. Just getting ready to go down the range, so I'll read your link later. Have you seen there's also a follow-up article - http://dougkerr.net/Pumpkin/articles/Aperture_Sight_Demo.pdf (assuming as a new boy my link doesn't get stri...

Re: Relation between eye relief and rear aperture size
Thanks Kenny, really helpful. When you talk about the sweet spot, am I right in thinking this is where gradually closing down the rear iris you get to a point where the centre of the aperture starts to turn black, and that the sweet spot is just before that happens? I've heard about it but haven't b...

Relation between eye relief and rear aperture size
Hello all, first post on this excellent forum. I've only been doing smallbore prone target shooting for a few months, and am trying to learn as much as possible in order to improve my scores, so please excuse a simple question. At the moment I have a 1.2mm fixed iris on my Anschutz rear sight, and h...
