Raise or lower into aiming area?

I have adopted the following schedule during training (aim: to focus on the process not the score). I give myself a score for each of the following out of seven (seven being excellent): settle into hold, quality of hold; quality of sight alignment; quality of release; quality of follow trough. What ...

Bntii, Interestingly I had a similar experience: clearly logged in my shooting diary. The whys and wherefores are relatively pointless - in my case getting a coach was the single most important step. Becasue I 'understood' what I was supposed to be doing but didn't actually know how to achieve it I ...

At that time I had a regular coach and he suggested that I change my routine in the club. I always have a set of match cards to shoot - pretty much every week - and I used to shoot them after settling in and feeling comfortable (i.e. usually after shooting for about an hour). Even then they were sca...

Sheeeeesh - you know, I read that pilkgun article about chicken finger about a year ago and it didn't register - I guess I didn't understand back then! I shoot three times a week for 2 hours a session (that includes a stretch, 20 blank cards, 2x 10 shots in 30 mins, then I shoot whatever competition...

Trigger control under stress

Hi guys 'n gals, A quick 'coaching' question with an explanatory preamble. Preamble: I have been shooting 10m AP for 2 yrs now, so have seen a number of changes in my shooting ability and style. I have had several epiphanies and now find myself in a situation where, when I start a competition I have...

As an adjunct - if your head is in a position that requires a lot of muscle tension to keep it there, then that will affect your ability to hit tens. Stance, in its broadest sense, includes head position: you should be aiming for (excuse the pun) a comfortable and stable head position that can be ma...

Apropos Steve's last post:

Great art critics are (very) rarely great artists and vice versa.

My coach's refrain is "just shoot"! (usually after I have spent the last 40 minutes analysing some microscopic aspect of my process).

The "benefit" is aesthetics. If you like that sort of thing. I have heard people argue ( marketing hype?) about stability and resistance to warping but that is clap-trap. Unless you leave your pistol in the rain and sun.

First of I consider myself still in the 'student' phase (but I am sure I could mature into a gadfly :). Consequently I find myself recognising, and partaking in, all of Steve's options. When I am properly settled and shooting well I can initiate phase 2 whilst ignoring that programme and have an alm...

Re: tremors

fundamentals dont change with the age of the shooter. If your movement has increased, the size of your group should increase as well. I would advise YKAORa shooter to trust his,her hold and concentrate on execution of the. shot sequence, I HAVE to disagree. As with most complex behaviours the outco...

A lot of great stuff on this thread - food for thought and more. My original post was way-back-when and things have changed a bit since then. I now have a coach who immediately identified a 1001 problems with my stance. I am now much more stable. Grip next. Now much better. Then we began to analyse ...

I'm sure you can find someone with the oposite view, but my advice is stear clear of this gun if what you want is a competition-quality repeater (or single shot). My club has two to get people started - they invariably scare people away from AP. The trigger is an absolute pig. It would be fine for b...

Elmas, I am a youngster by comparison (47) but encountered a similar problem until recently. Take it as read that this may NOT be the same issue, but it may be worth giving my solution a try. Every ten shots or so (stochastic - but with about that frequency) my arm would twitch whilst still holding ...

Kent, I agree it would be useful to have examples of great shooters and their scatt traces, at least in the context of an analysis by an expert's eye to point out the differences and what they mean. My coach has a Scatt, which he lends to his students. He keeps all the data on the controlling comput...

My chronometer (cb-625) is hard-wired with that setting. The manufacturer is probably erring on the side of caution then.

LP 10 Velocity adjustment

Hi guys. This topic is effectively following on from a thread started almost a year ago (http://www.targettalk.org/viewtopic.php?p=60532). My LP 10 started producing very raggedy holes, so I chased up the link above, bought a chronometer and chronyed the pistol at 420fps with 0.52g pellets. Problem ...

Behavioural Training / scoring

This is a issue relating to a point Steve Swartz raised in an earlier thread. Steve pointed out that instead of using holes in paper to observe progress (i.e. scores) one should use progress in the shot process (i.e. behaviour). I thought about this and realised that part of my problem was disassoci...
