Re: Is it odd to use RWS rifle match in a pistol?

I use it in my Walther GSP. It's not my preferred ammunition but you have to take what you can get these days. My pistol is flawlessly reliable with CCI SV, but occasionally RWS Target Rifle doesn't quite have enough pressure to cycle the pistol. When I clean more frequently it does help, but I stil...

Re: Returt to shooting after 6 years

I took four years off from pistol shooting because my scores were plummeting due to vision issues. I've been trying to get back close to my best year (560 average for over 10,000 shots) or even my five year average of 558; but after three years I've been stuck around 546. But vision has been my cons...

Re: American Intl Pistol

International pistol competitors are, unfortunately, few and far between. Narrowing that down to those shooting a particular event (air pistol, standard pistol, air pistol) exacerbates the problem. Many of us can't make either a USAS or NRA match in international pistol with a single day round-trip....

Traction grip

I've applied skate tape (carefully cut out to match those areas where I wanted a rough surface) to the grip. It's inexpensive, easy to apply and effective, though it's a bit more course than I would prefer. Darius Young used to use the paint-on compound that is used for the step-zones of aircraft or...

Lead free pellets

I don't mean to start another discussion of lead issues ... But I noticed that H&N is selling a 'green non-lead' pellet using a tin alloy. It's a light pellet (around 5 grains) and pricey (over 4 cents per pellet). The apparently universal experience with non-lead pellets is that they are inaccu...

Sight picture

If you can see the rings of the target, you must have remarkable vision! I've fired both sub-6 and recently switched to center bull (and have seen an improvement in my scores). It's just personal, but I find that the sub-6 hold makes it easier to achieve sight alignment given the contrast of black s...

AP cleaning

I thought that I'd follow-up on my post regarding questions about if some professional care would benefit my Steyr LP1P. Well, the pistol must have read my post because it made my decision for me. About a week ago it began to fail to fire (click but no air) about 2/3rds of the time. Maybe the regula...

IZH-46 grips

I was apprehensive about taking a Dremel tool to my IZH-46 as well. But the grips were entirely too large even though my hands are of average size. I think that this is intentional on the presumption that the owner will customize the grips themselves. I took it slow and 'lived' with the grips as I D...

The pistol is 14 years old. I have never replaced (or needed to replace) the seals. One of my primary thoughts is if a professional bore cleaning would improve accuracy. I have occasionally had a shifting point of impact that I successfully addressed by a careful cleaning of the muzzle shroud. That ...

AP pistol cleaning

I'm curious if there's a point were I should consider having my Steyr LP1P professionally cleaned by a true air pistol specialist. (I wouldn't trust an air pistol to anyone other than a specialist). This would include a thorough once-over to determine if there are any other deficiencies. My LP1P has...

I'm an unfortunate cross-eye dominant shooter; left eyed and right handed with a pistol. I have never seen any choice but to shoot long guns left-handed (nor can I understand how anyone else could, though I know some do so successfully). Despite over 40 years shooting long guns from the left side, I...

Prime age for Competitors

I sincerely appreciate the responses and perspectives. I have a number of take-aways from these responses: 1) I had become accustomed to setting goals that were progressively higher as I improved. Setting lower goals seemed to be defeatist. Setting stretch goals is good, but setting unrealistic goal...

Prime age for pistol competitors

I would like to hear opinions regarding at what age pistol competitors are able to achieve their peak scores. I took my pistol competition seriously starting at about age 29. My scores in 22 conventional, standard pistol and air pistol steadily increased to where my scores were 560 in air pistol, 54...
