Re: Scoring in standard pistol

Don't shoot the 20 second strings too fast (most people do). 20 seconds is longer than you think. If you want to train for Standard Pistol, put your efforts into practicing the 20 second strings; get really good at that, and then just do it faster! The match is generally won or lost during the 20 &a...

Re: Shooting glasses recommendation?

If you normally wear prescription glasses, it's really worth getting a second lens holder with a standard prescription lens fitted for your non-aiming eye. I use knoblochs and usefully they offer a small strut called the "special adjusting slide" (part number 3071). This enables a blinder ...

Re: 25m Pistol Timer (new Android app with shot detection)

Thanks ToTheZeroth!
Those are great additions. I'm using it on a Nexus tablet and being able to pinch-zoom the targets to size is a fantastic feature. I admire your skills in this area and really appreciate what you have created.

Re: 25m Pistol Timer (new Android app with shot detection)

Great App! Really enjoying it. Suggestions for future releases would be to be able to select the size of the red / green dots up to a nice big blob with the idea that the device could be hung on wall above a resized target to replicate an electronic target. Even fancier would be to have a size-selec...

Re: Vostok MU 2-3 Info Needed

IZH / Baikal manufacture their target guns in batches (which is whenever they can be bothered to get around to it; the principles of supply and demand don't apply though the massive increase in Russian defence spending in the last five years means they probably have other things on their mind). A ba...

Re: Wonderful news ! New FAS standard pistol !

As an owner of a FAS 603 and having shot several 602's and 607's (and got them going again for owners who were struggling with them) I'm convinced that most of the reliability issues associated with FAS cartridge pistols could be solved if better quality spring steel were used for the springs. Recoi...

Re: Keeping Calm

I'm not a huge fan of golf (I've played about three rounds in my entire life) but there are a number of similarities between that sport and target shooting in terms of how people perform under pressure and dealing with competition nerves (racing pulse rates, adrenalin rushes etc). Being (alas) a muc...

Visit your local charity store / opportunity shop and buy a fleecy sweater or similar. Cut one of the arms off, trim the resulting tube to fit around your hand and pistol; Ta dah!

Re: AW93 Trigger Adjustments

I love my AW93 but will admit setting up the trigger can be a chore compared to a Pardini SP and in the past I spent hours over several nights fighting to get mine right. The great thing about a Pardini is that you can see everything and quickly work out exactly how each screw affects the trigger pu...

Those small cans of spray-on sight black are pretty expensive once they reach these shores ($25) and just like soot, it doesn't adhere to the sights. Unless you have a gun which could be easily damaged by heat (say a Hammerli 280) I think camphor or similar is a better and cheaper option.

Ebay, Amazon, Indian grocery stores, probably online Indian food / Hindi cultural supplies websites.

May be called camphor tablets, camphor cubes or camphor blocks (all the same thing)

Re: Camphor explain please

Saw several post saying use camphor. I don't understand, please explain. Keep a tablet of camphor (I break mine into smaller pieces) in an empty flame proof container with a tight-fitting lid (e.g. an empty pellet tin). When you want to blacken your sights, open the tin, place it on a stable surfac...

+1 on camphor. I use the empty pellet tin method to store, burn and extinguish the flame. For some reason, every Indian food emporium / grocery store around here sells camphor tablets. It's very cheap and one tablet lasts for ages. I normally break a whole tablet into three or four smaller pieces an...

I would be quite happy to pay €49 for the book purchased directly from MEC. It's the €33 postage that I object to when a 2kg package sent here using Deutsche Post (calculated using their website) comes to €17.

The process as I recall it was to sheath the air cylinder with a short length of appropriately sized PVC pipe split down the middle and place it horizontally in a vice gripping the cylinder (not too tight; you don’t want to crush the thing). Undo the two recessed screws on top of the frame (forward ...

I did David's first option (with thanks to Rob Potter) on my 162e. It didn't cost much and has gone another ten years without any problems since it was serviced (and I was given a spare set of gaskets should it happen again). I've considered upgrading to removable tanks but I'm unlikely to ever part...

"Hell no" from me. I have always enjoyed Target Talk not just for the technical discussions but precisely because it is (largely) free of politics. There are a large number of guns and / or politics forums where firearms legislation can be discussed all day, every day. Inevitably, many thr...

However the publishers were probably hoping that it would be the photo of Olena Kostevych that would grab people's attention! Interestingly, it's not the only front cover she has recently appeared on...

You can easily re-pack your dead battery with 10 x 1.5v AG10 alkaline button cells (or the LR1130 which is the same thing). Pull the metal casing off with a pair of pliers and inside is a plastic tube containing ten cells plus a nipple top and bottom. Stack ten fresh cells into the tube, place the n...

Fill and attach a cylinder then seal the whole pistol in a large zip-lock plastic bag with as much air sucked out of it as possible. If you have access to one, use one of those vacuum sealers which people use to vacuum pack food before freezing (but it’s no big deal if you haven’t). Leave it for a d...
