Re: Buy a tuner or not?

Please forget the ammo, I've done the batch testing and this batch of Lapua tested the best from about 12 different lots. Once it runs out I'll drive to Birmingham and test with Eley but the Lapua beat RWS in testing. I've also not had great results testing Eley from the shoulder. What I'm trying to...

Re: Buy a tuner or not?

I already have, the Midas+ was selected from the best they had on the day, grouped at about 13mm at 50m. The groups in the photo's were shot at 100yds not 50m. THEN work on it with a tuner if you need one. Thats exactly the question do I need one? I can't decide if the group size could be improved w...

Buy a tuner or not?

Looking for advice from people who use tuners.

I've attached two targets I shot yesterday at 100 yards, Lapua Midas +. Looking at the group size do you think I'd benefit from using a Starik tube?

Increasing Eye Relief

I have my eye relief as short as my shooting frames will allow however after studying photos of some ISSF competitions I have noticed a few shooters with a larger eye relief than I would consider normal, even when they have enough room to move the rear sight back. This got me thinking and making com...

Re: New Stainless Barrel break in

Thanks for the comments, I think the performance is tightening up. I've attached a photo of a 5 shot group from last night at 25yds. I'll just keep putting ammo through it and see what happens.

New Stainless Barrel break in

Could I ask those more knowledgeable than myself what your thoughts are on breaking in new barrels? I've recently had a Trueflite barrel fitted into my 1813. The smith who fitted said 500 rds would break it in, however when I spoke to ELEY about batch testing their recommendation was 2000 rds. So fa...

Re: Does your anschutz barrel have to warm up?

My first rifle, an 1813, gave me loads of issues with throwing shots and settling down (or not) after cleaning that took me ages to work out what was going on. After taking it to a gunsmith and borescoping it we worked out the barrel was fairly leaded up. The only way to remove the lead was to polis...

Re: Anschutz 54.30

It disappoints me that Anschutz is delivering a rifle that's not as shown on their promotional photos. Not that the finish will affect the performance of the rifle. But I really liked the polished look of the receiver from the official photos. This just looks like it skipped a step in production. I...

He's in Oxford.
John Sims has been mentioned to me before however I failed to find any contact details for him anywhere, he doesn't appear to be on the net or listed as an Oxford gunsmith.

Re: Rebarrel .22 Anschutz (UK)

I echo Tim's comments on cleaning the crown, it's undoubtedly causing the issues you're experiencing. The attached picture is from rimfire accuracy website and shows fouling on the muzzle of a 2013 after about 1500 rounds! Yours must be in a real state by now! Re: cross eye dominate

Sorry Ryan but I wholeheartedly disagree with your comments on using a black blinder. For me personally it made a massive improvement in the clarity of my sight picture using a black blinder. Its as if it forces the brain to use the right eye image as it doesn't receive an image from the left eye, I...

Re: cross eye dominate

I recently raised this question on a UK forum as I am left eye dominant too. As I'm right handed I've always shot from the right shoulder and wouldnt consider changing just because of my eye dominance (I would also point out that my eye sight is also better in my non dominant right eye although only...

Re: Moisture in barrel

Thanks for the feedback, I'm sure its not storage related (stored vertically) as I dry patch the barrel before shooting. I'm shooting two differant batches of ammo, matched r50 for comps and special match for training. Ive attached a photo of the first felt after shooting.

thanks

Moisture in barrel

I'm looking to shed some light on this only because it intrigues me! I own a 1913. I shot RWS special match or R50. I always clean the barrel after shooting and run an oiled patch down before storage. I then dry patch before I shoot again. So my question is when I've finished shooting I first run a ...

Re: NEW BARREL?

I'm considering exactly the same barrel for my 1813 as I've discovered the UK importer for Benchmark isn't far from me. Does anyone have any comments/input on 3 groove vs 5 groove, I'm struggling to make a decision on which one to purchase.

Thanks

Re: Matching Ammo to Rifle Question

There was another advantage to batch testing for me, I discovered that my 1813 barrel was knackered! I then bought a secondhand 1913 action and my scores instantly jumped up by a 2 point average. I would never have known otherwise.

Re: Adding padding to stock

Hi guys Thanks for the replies. The kurt thune glove is only a year old so isn't worn out yet, but I agree the padding is quite thin. The pain is in the fleshy bit of the palm below the thumb and is caused by the sharp edge of the stock digging into the edge of this pad. I have managed to relieve it...

Adding padding to stock

I suffer quite a bit of discomfort in my support hand due the cant angle I use and the edge of the 1813 stock digging in. I already use kurt thune hard shell type glove and have the anschutz 4752 hand stop rotated all the way out. I therefore wanted to know if it is legal to add padding to the stock...
