Hi Tim
I think you've hit the nail on the head with the buttplate, I'd never have thought of that. I've removed a small amount of cant from the buttplate and that seems to have reduced the tension in the forearm, so the sling must have been twisting the rifle and wrist.
thanks Bryan

Tennis elbow in prone position
Could anyone shed any light on way I would be getting a pain, very similar to tennis elbow, in my support forearm close to the elbow. It only happens whilst in position and I've tried everything I can think of to prevent it, including handstop shape and position, sling tension and length of pull. I'...

Re: Cure for Freezing on the Trigger
To try and bring this back onto the topic you could try the Kurt Thune app, it'll help you to identify a good sight picture for a prompt release.

Re: Buy a tuner or not?
Kev, I'm very lucky Bisley is right on my doorstep. In fact I have to drive past Bisley to get to my club. PM me nearer the time of your visit and if I'm around (might be on holiday in August) I'll buy you a drink. The rifle is an old 1813 that I bought three years ago when I started shooting and wa...

Re: Buy a tuner or not?
My apologies Mark, you clearly know what you're talking about. While I'm waiting for my starik tube to turn up I thought I'd experiment with adding wheel weights to my tube to bring it up to the same 220g total weight that Guy uses. I popped down to Bisley last night for a quick 60 shot match and th...

Re: Buy a tuner or not?
A good shooting 1813 that liked Lapua did not group any tighter at 100 with the addition of a BeeSting tuner; an expensive experiment. It took a few trips to the range to find a setting where the tuner would not hurt performance. It did improve the Eley and RWS groups, but they never matched the La...

Re: Buy a tuner or not?
I had to read this statement a few times, and I am still not sure I fully digest it. It doesn't make sense to me that the only source of vibration is the firing pin strike. Maybe I am misreading it, or misinterpreting it? Vibration IMHO would come from the mechanical movement (firing pin, of course...

Re: Buy a tuner or not?
Interestingly I've just received this email reply from Dr Geoffrey Kolbe: "The 200 gm weight was lucky happenstance - I did not try others or determine the weight through trials. I should state too that the rig on which the tests were done was a 'case study' and nowhere did I say that this repr...

Re: Buy a tuner or not?
Thanks for everyone's inputs, I didn't expect this thread to get quite so long. Anyway I've ordered one of Guys tube's today and will look forward to testing it (my £218 grunig tube is now redundant less than a year after buying it!). I worked on the theory that a lot of top level shooters are using...

Re: Buy a tuner or not?
Thanks for the reply Guy, If you've experimented with Dr Kolbe why do you still use the PRX formula when Dr Kolbe has effectively disproved it? (PRX saying that the muzzle should be still and Dr Kolbe saying it should be moving). The results you have acheived with long vs short tube could probably b...

Re: Buy a tuner or not?
Turns out Dr Geoffrey Kolbe has already done the maths and the hard work on muzzle angle for positive compensation: http://www.geoffrey-kolbe.com/articles/rimfire_accuracy/tuning_a_barrel.htm I quote; "The influential American rimfire gunsmith Bill Calfee, in an article written for Precision Sh...

Re: Accuracy issues
The gun is regular cleaned and well taken care of. He doesn't want to spend the money to put the barrel on and have the action be bad. Jason if the barrel were to be replaced the gunsmith would reset the headspace when fitting the new barrel (the headspace is the gap between the face of the barrel ...

Re: Buy a tuner or not?
Guy- Thanks for chipping in and I hope I didn’t offend you. I do understand that all your tuners are handmade for each barrel and each one will be a slightly different length. My comment was more directed towards the question of the different harmonies used for each tube length. I genuinely don’t un...

Re: Buy a tuner or not?
As to the barrel profile, I believe that Guy Starik asks for this information, in addition to length, when ordering a tube, so he at least considers it a factor somewhere. Tim, I emailed Guy Starik last week asking about barrel diamemter as my barrel is stepped down at the muzzle and woundered if h...

Re: Buy a tuner or not?
In this configuration, there will always be a node at the closed end and an anti-node at the open end. Trick is find a length of barrel and tuner that achieves a node at the muzzle, with an anti-node at the mouth of the tuner at an applicable harmonic. Tony, if you're creating a node at the muzzle ...

Re: Buy a tuner or not?
Kevin - That all makes pefect sense. To be honest I misunderstood and thought you were referring to rear aperature size rather than the foresight aperature size, hence the question. I have trained with differant foresight sizes but do probably need to do more, especailly when the light levels increa...

Re: Buy a tuner or not?
These are good targets IMHO.........I would take them most days in pretty good conditions!! I have found that I gain more reduction in group size just working on hold and aperture size...... I would take a 197 @ 100 yards on that target any day of the week Thank you for those positive comments Kevi...

Re: Buy a tuner or not?
For what it's worth. My rifle is an Annie 1913. I batch tested Center X here in Mesa at the Lapua center. Action was in the stock (wood) and clamped in their fixture. Best was 12.5 @50, which came out to 28.2 @ 100. Put on a Starik tuner. Me shooting prone/sling with a scope I was able to get 10.8 ...

Re: Buy a tuner or not?
Thanks for the replies, let me fill in a few blanks. This is an Anschutz 54 action thats been fitted with a truflite barrel (good memory Tim) and is fitted in a precise stock. The barrel has now had 2640 rounds through it. I bought Lapua as Eley didn't recommend batch testing with them until I'd rea...
