Riser Blocks and accuracy

I've noticed that a lot of shooters in the top UK competitions use quite high riser blocks in the prone position so last night I added an additional 8mm to my current setup which is a 8mm rear and 4mm front on a starik tube. The results seemed to be a clearer sight picture, which is obviously a posi...

Re: Shooting in new rifle

Eley told me last year when I had my 1913 rebarreled that they dont recommend batch testing until 2000 rounds.

I havent been up to them yet as I was waiting for my second rifle to be rebarreled too but at around 5000 rounds the performance seemed to improve.

Re: How to get sling to pull on outside arm in prone?

Can I ask a few pulse related questions?

Firstly, if the pulse was pushing shots out of the ten ring where would you expect the POI to be (ie 3 o'clock)?

Secondly, do slings like the MEC really remove all pulse (and therefore are they worth the money)?

thanks Bryan

Re: Advice on Smallbore rifle

Depending on your daughters age I would say that you would be better looking at the round action 54 series (1907 or 1913) as the action is narrower than the square 20 series and will fit her support hand better. There's also no benefit in being able to swop barrels at this early stage of her shootin...

Re: Rear sight with corrective diopter?

Sorry I should have written 50300 not 530. Your progressive lens won't work, but you know that. You'd need a lens made up to your distance persciption, not your reading prescription. My persciption in my right is only +0.25 with -0.5 astigmatism. The problem I have is that my eye seems to have an ac...

Re: Rear sight with corrective diopter?

I've just fitted it to my 569 unit for indoors. My frame lens is my normal prescription as the +0.5 doesn't work for me (I did have a lens made up to try it). The good thing with the 530 is that you can dial in the +0.5 if you need it. I can get the best image I've ever had. I would add that most of...

Re: Rear sight with corrective diopter?

Sometimes in my enthusiasm I do things too quickly... I had a consult with my optician this morning and because I also have astigmatism, he said that absolutely positively I will not like the #530 adjustable diopter iris I ordered. The 530 has just arrived, and I'm not even going to try it (my rifl...

Re: Commercial .22 test rigs

Hi Pete I've been talking to Robert Nibbs regarding purchasing one of his test rigs for Chobham. The post at the rear is to allow consistent repeatable cant angle (to match what you shoot with). Guy Starik has told me that to tune his tube in on a test bench the rifle needs to be allowed to recoil u...

Re: Centra Duplex Vario - loss of alignment

Doesn't the OP mean that the duplex unit its self is lose in its connection to the rearsight unit, so when he knocks it the sight picture changes? Would the locking screws prevent this from happening?

Re: POI jumps north

Finally got to the bottom of this. Butt plate was slipping, either whilst reloading or under recoil. I've tilted the the butt plate back slightly to get more purchase and that's solved the issue.

Thanks for everyone's input.

Re: POI jumps north

Thanks for all the reply's. Sallar600 - it might just be a poor NPA, although I've not really had this problem with it before. Bugman - This is prone. Wouldn't a tense shoulder push shots low into 7 and 8 oclock? Tony C - New Trueflite barrel, only 1 year and 4000 rds old. I clean everytime I use it...

POI jumps north

I'm pulling my hair out with this one, so any advice would be greatly appreciated. Shooting a UK 10 bull 25yd target, after good sighters move on to the target. Suddenly POI jumps into the nine ring at 12 or 1 oclock, this could be the first or anywhere upto the 4th shot (at this point my only body ...

Tenex Pistol

Does anyone use or has tried Tenex Pistol, with the round nose rather than the EPS, in their rifle? I'm just interested if anyone has found an advantage with it. Kevin Nevius - have you tried these in your 1.5 degree lead chamber? I plan on buying some in the next few weeks when my local dealer reop...

Re: choice of rifle for 25yard left-handed

My local dealer is suggesting Anschuetz 1918 (which has the large grip only for lefties), or the Walther KK500, which seems a bit out of my class, though not unaffordable if I really wanted it. Dont be put off with the large grip on the precise stock. I use the precise with a large grip despite hav...

Re: Buy a tuner or not?

You'd need to ask Guy what the calibration of the thread is, however I expect its a 1mm thread pitch as it was about 2mm out from fully home. At first I just rotated it one complete turn at a time, obviously two turns were good, three turns then showed separation again. I then went back to 2.5 turns...

Re: Buy a tuner or not?

BR1942 - I didnt see the point in putting together a 10 rd group as the object of the experiment was to prove if the tuner was working at reducing vertical stringing by putting fast and slow ammo into the same point of impact. Which it did. A 10 rd group would just show how good my barrel ammo match...

Re: Buy a tuner or not?

Update #2 So visited the club last night, 25 yards indoors this time. Shot from a rest in the prone position. In order to get a spread of speed I used RWS Special match and RWS R100 to give a 15m/s or 49 f/s difference in speed. First target with tuner weight wound all the way in, one round of each,...

Re: Buy a tuner or not?

Thanks for chipping in Guy. The vice was just a clamp, with no recoil feature. I had missed that bit in the instuctions on your website. And that does match with my inability to tune it. Why do you say a fixed vice wouldn't work? I also dont understand why this would make any differance if the PRX t...

Re: Buy a tuner or not?

Just as an update, if anyone's interested. Guy's tube has arrived and I've finally had chance to test it in a vice at Bisley. I have two photos of the group size for 10 shots of Midas+ shot from a vice at 50m, without and with the turner. So obviously there's a significant improvement with the tuner...
