Re: Marvel Conversion

The conversion is a no fit installation. It's a fixed barrel design that locks firmly to the frame. The slide will have some play in it that doesn't affect the accuracy. Barrels normally shoot better than .75"@50 yards. I highly recommend the Nelson Conversion. Get an 8# spring for it because y...

Re: Marvel Conversion

The .22 conversions are designed to fit a peened/tightened frame. You should have no issues with slide fitting your Caspian frame.

Re: Hammerli 208 "Crisp" Trigger?

Let me just say I radically altered the sear to minimize engagement with the hammer. This changes many other things with regards to take up, reset, and let off. Nothing that requires brain surgery, just similar approach to other pistols out there.

Re: Hammerli 208 "Crisp" Trigger?

Trigger work theory is something I share, but not actual photos or anything that I think will get me or someone in trouble. Having said that, I do share with people I know locally because I can make sure that nothing unsafe is being performed. A 2# trigger job is dangerous for 99% of the people to p...

Re: Hammerli 208 "Crisp" Trigger?

I haven't worked on Hammerli 208 in quite some time. I'm getting one this weekend. But i have worked on the Trailside. They are almost identical in design. I convert them to almost crisp but slight roll you can only feel if you get chicken finger. I basically cut down sear engagement (modify hammer ...

With trigger pulled to rear, the Hammer must be able to rotate without hitting the sear. If it hits the sear it will deform the sear and the Half cock notch. I regularly work on pistols that are set up to tight and damaged. Screw is only for overtravel.

Typically no you cannot. The pin that slides through the frame is only half the length and fits into right side thumb safety pin (slotted male to female). It will flop and be loose. I recommend getting a standard GI thumb safety.

The .32 s&w long. When I was at the AMU they were tried and quickly set aside. We shot a ton of .32 for the CISM matches. The Walther GSP was used by the majority of shooters. Shot a match about a year ago and a shooter showed up with one and complained about the same thing.

I would steer clear of the 280. They are notorious for unexplained flyers. Too many other better pistols out there.

I think that the Ruger MK pistols are good severe duty .22 pistols. You can't hurt them and they'll shoot anything reliably. Trigger jobs are easy to get and they do shoot well. The bolt is fairly heavy in comparison to other .22 pistols and can handle the abuse from the heavier loaded minimag ammo....

I shot a Hammerli 208 for a long time. In my opinion as a former user and as a gunsmith, you do not need to pay someone to clean your pistol. After taking the slide off the frame, just use cotton swabs and clean as much of the pistol as you can reach. When finished just use your thumb and depress th...

Looking at the photo you submitted it appears that the roll over point (where the case transitions from the chamber throat to chamber) needs more radius added. The case side wall is getting caught as it tries to make the transition. Look at the side of the case for a minor dent from getting stuck/ja...

Spoke with a friend who has had a Nelson Conversion for a couple weeks. He tried it on I believe 5 different frames (Colt, Springfield, Remington Rand, Colt Gold Cup). Worked on all but one (Colt). The dimensioning of the magazine release/catch was the culprit. He's very happy with the unit. As far ...

Do you have another magazine release you can try in the pistol? I would recommend trying that. The Nelson magazines do set higher into the frame to align the chambering round into feedramp/chamber. It was common to use a .050" higher magazine release on Marvel conversions to improve feeding and...

If you weld up the barrel and refit it, be forewarned that you will need a LONG link to fit it correctly. Al Marvel isn't making #21 long links anymore and no one else is making one yet. EGW is supposed to in the future. The link is crucial to proper functioning and grouping. Older barrels, typicall...
