Re: Smith&Wesson 52 .38WC
Clarence is right about the bullet tipping. There's a guy at my local monthly match that 100% of all his shots at both distances are tipped. 52 is known for tipping but the hbwc is your best bet to get better groups.

Re: Cheaper .45 alternatives
The title of the post is cheaper 1911alternatives. Very misleading. Everything you discussed is more expensive :l) I was expecting something like can you take a RIA .45 and turn it into a competive 1-1/2" BE pistol? Yes I can! So I was let down on the discussion of cheapy 45's. John if I had mi...

Re: Colt National Matc .38 Spec. Wad Cutter MK III
I've been shooting and building 1911 .38 specials since 89. I'm currently building 2 from scratch, a historic replica old school rebuild and a re-barrel job on a longslide all .38's. I've shot almost all makes and models of 1911 .38 specials, so I'm very familiar with them. I don't consider myself a...

Retired National Records
I just saw that in 2014 USA Shooting retired all the 3 man team records. Is it due to the piss poor turn outs at the nat'ls and selection matches? Back in 92 I was on a record setting team and USAS wouldn't transfer the record without proof of it being shot on 25m range. It was a US Team selection m...

Re: Aim point H-1 mounted on Pardini SP BE?
I just got an SP and I filed down an extra H-1 base/mount I had. Works fine but ugly. Going to fabricate a mount now that I know what I'm up against.

Re: Nighthawk/Marvel 22 conversion 1911
Larry Nelson is great at returning calls in my experience. He is honest and genuine.
I'm under the impression that they made the conversions for Nighthawk.

Re: 1911 grips for Xesse
Grip should not cause forearm pain. Sounds like you have tendonitis. Shooting will aggrevate it. Sometimes even the .22 will.

Re: 1911 grips for Xesse
I use the 1911 grips on my Hammerli 208. I absolutely love them. Way easier to be consistent with than the Orthopedic grips. It has nothing to do with because I shoot a 1911 .45, it's because I can squeeze it the same way every time. I own custom made for me grips that I had Cesar Morini make for me...

Re: UNinstall Bo-Mar Rib
Forgot to mention that many of the older Bomar ribs had accuracy tuners. The rear screw is at rear of rib to make room for the tuner and it's 2 screws. 6 screws total.

Re: UNinstall Bo-Mar Rib
I don't have a Bomar rib i can look at right now, but they use 4 screws. That rear sight looks like a Ruger MKII sight put on a Bomar rib.

Re: UNinstall Bo-Mar Rib
Bomar ribs didn't have dovetails for rear sight. Rib was machined for sight. This rib I'm 99% sure has been machined for a dovetailed Bomar. This rear sight was for a different pistol. Probably used to fix a rib with a damaged rear sight.
I could be mistaken but don't think so.

Re: UNinstall Bo-Mar Rib
That's not the sight that rib originally came with. It was retrofitted. You probably need to remove the rear sight from rib to expose the other screw. So tighten all the screws, drift out rear sight and remove all screws.

Re: Hammerli 208S - 215S Slides
Slides are loose on the Hammerli. I don't think you'll have any issues. Just lube as you normally would. The headspace shouldn't make a difference (bolt face recess). Mass difference is negligible.

Re: Modding a Stainless Steel .45
As a long time 1911 pistolsmith I steer away from SS pistols. Frame to slide fit cannot be held to tight tolerances without galling. I've even seen looser SA 19 11 ' s gall. I typically use carbon steel slide on SS lower if building match pistol. Accurails are about $215. SS is also harder to work w...

Re: Free pistol advice
You know when you compare cylinder wall thickness of revolvers with much higher chamber pressures than .22lr to wall thickness of a 41 barrel, it's mind boggling to think a .22lr could do that kind of damage. There obviously had to be a tremendous amount of extra powder involved.

Re: Free pistol advice
I shot free pistol nationally for USAR & AMU International pistol teams. I was on US National Development Team and was invited to be a resident athlete at the OTC. I've shot a lot of free pistol. In my opinion recoil from .22 pistol means absolutely nothing from one brand to another. Some more, ...

Re: Free pistol advice
Free pistols were designed for bullet to engrave into rifling during chambering. I've never had one not hard seat a round. I've shot many models of Hammerli and my Toz 35. They all do it.

Re: Marvel Conversion
The Marvel should shoot great. I recommend getting the Nelson shock buffer to prevent battering of the slide into the frame. Marvel's can be problematic with feeding. All the one's I build I use EGW higher magazine release and tune my magazine to function higher into pistol frame. It's a more direct...
