Re: Marvel Conversion Question

The Marvel and Nelson conversions were designed to fit a peened rail frame. I have not seen a peened frame yet that would not accept a 22 conversion. There are probably some out there but you probably wouldn't want that gun anyways because it would be peened to the high heavens. The slides are actua...

Re: Why we still shoot the 45?

Hello all Anybody in favor for allowing a 9mm for the 45 match? Cheers HELL NO! ABSOLUTELY NOT! Having said that, you can shoot powder puff 45 loads. I use 3.3-3.4 gr BE with 185 or 200 lswc for shortline. I'm moody for longline and use 3.4-3.8 gr for longline. Just learn how to shoot the 45 and yo...

Re: 1911 Series 80 - are theses used anywhere for bullseye?

A High Master BE shooter would choose a marginally accurate pistol with an outstanding trigger over the most accurate pistol with a crappy trigger! Trigger is practically everything.

Re: 1911 Series 80 - are theses used anywhere for bullseye?

Yes. They aren't preferred because quality can be substandard on some; machining tolerances, loose frame/slide. The series 80 firing pin block really isn't a big deal. A good gunsmith can make it feel like it doesn't exist. I've shot 880's with series 80 in the past when I had one. They can be built...

Re: Hammerli 208 question

208 is hard to beat. I shot one for several years back in my prime shooting years. 895 personal best with it. Superior to any conversion. Don't let single stage trigger scare you; you have to squeeze trigger no matter how many stages! I don't shoot my S model any better.

Re: What reddot did Zins use at Perry?

I use 3 micros and 1 9000sc. I find no difference in quality just size of view. The 9000 is quite heavy. AMU uses full power match jhp ammunition. For softer loads the 9000 might be a problem. I have no parallax issues with either scope they are both perfectly on call at 50 yds.

Re: What reddot did Zins use at Perry?

The scope is rotated 90 degrees moving the scope as low as possible over the slide. Probably only 1/8" to 3/16" lower than Dave's mount. Notice nothing between the scope and the slide. Dave's has a mount between slide and scope.

Gets the scope lower to bore line. That's why :)
It's not in the way.

Slide will travel to rear during recoil and ejection port is not blocked by the mount.

Re: What reddot did Zins use at Perry?

Yes group size. There are many 1911 45 pistols out there that shoot sub 1.5" 50 yard groups. I am referring to the fact that those great shooting pistols are not improving scores for majority of the shooters that shoot them. So having a nearly mechanically perfect firearm (accurate and extremel...

Re: What reddot did Zins use at Perry?

I think shooters get too wrapped up on the low mounting of a scope. Yeah the mechanics/physics say its better but it's not going to change the scores. Fundamentals are what shoot repetitive10's, not low to the bore scopes. I've shot 889 with a grip mount and 890 slide mounted. That's one extreme to ...

Re: To shorten sight radius or not?

I agree with SamEEE. Trigger error is leading cause for bad shots. The shorter sight radius might help some, but the long barrel isn't forgiving either way. Bad trigger squeeze leads to lateral/radial acceleration of the muzzle. With longer barrel it will make shot worse. I recommend lots of dry fir...

steyr lp10 seals/regulator question

I have a Steyr lp10 which I assume is 1997 vintage because both air cylinders are dated 97. I'm the 2nd owner and finally went to shoot it after it has set for 4 yrs since I received it. I believe both my cylinders need new seals because they're not holding air overnight. But my main concern is the ...

Re: Pistol (ISSF rules) coaching from 3 time Olympian via Sk

Rover that's the nature of the beast. Majority of people I coach only get slightly better because they don't apply what is being taught: too much work. The ones who apply it make progress. Then you have the shooters who perform well in practice and shoot sub-standard at the matches. She is perfect f...

Re: Would would it take to make 1911 competitive

I've been competing and building BE 1911 pistols in Ca since 89. Mil-spec can easily be built into 1.5" pistol. I've recently worked on some Sig Target 1911's. I recommend the Sig because its checkered front strap. $900 on gunbroker and legal. Sig has some MIM parts but can be replaced with bet...

Re: Pardini HP 32, ammo talk

I saw someone ask about winning Perry CF with .32. Can't vouch for that but thought I'd share this. I dug through box of scores because I remember a high grand aggregate in 2670's. December 89 in San Diego, Darius Young shot 895-53 (2674 grand agg) for CF match with .32 long. I'm pretty sure it was ...
