5-shot Air Pistol vs Single Shot

As I recall from previous threads, the issue is not accuracy, but rather trigger feel. The concensus seemed to be that the single shot pistol had a superior trigger to that of the 5-shot pistol (of the same manufacturer).

Air Pistol Target scoring rings

See ISSF rule 6.3.2.6 for dimensions of the scoring rings. As guest above states, the ten ring is 11.5 mm in diameter and the inner ten ring is 5.0 mm in diameter. The inner ten is of no significance when scoring a target under the current ISSF rules. See rule 8.12.0 for the tie-breaking procedure. ...

M52 in ISSF

A factor to be borne in mind when considering the S&W Model 52 for use in ISSF 25 m Center Fire Pistol is that, as delivered, the 52 has a trigger pull that is less than the minimum required 1360 grams - being closer to 1134 grams. S&W did offer a "heavier" (stiffer) sear spring th...

SSP balance

There is a selection of weights available to fit on a rail underneath the front portion of the barrel. I expect one could make the pistol as muzzle heavy as one wants.

from Rule 8.16.0 - "Compensators, muzzle brakes, perforated barrels or any device(s) functioning in a similar manner are not allowed." Tycho, you noted "Rules forbid any gas operated compensation systems." As you can see, the rule does have a qualification, to wit, "... func...

thoughts on Pardini anti-recoil

OK, since we are in a pedantic mood here, I'd like to back up a couple of messages and discuss David's statement: "If a lot of the ammunition's power is being taken by an anti-recoil system ...." The current production Pardini anti-recoil system, using weights and springs (the Heirich Ries...

SSP grip

Mark noted: "My main problems with the pistol were with its plastic grip (YUCK!) and its trigger ....." I confess I did not care for the appearance of the grip (although I liked the feel) which looks like it is coated with silvery-grey sand. However, Scott Illingworth, the Walther dealer, ...

Spare parts for MG2

David, If you can get it, I suggest you pick up at least one spare Bullet Insert Lever, part 2060. It is the part most likely to fail. A broken BIL turns the MG2 into a single shot pistol. It is a bit tricky to replace, but there, in Ottawa, you have a couple of experienced, amateur gunsmiths to ass...

SSP top loading

Back in July, at the Canadian Pistol Championships (ISSF and Conventional Pistol), I saw two Walther SSP pistols. I got to handle, but not shoot, one of them (the other had been sold and was not available for handling). I also watched a female junior shooter use the gun in competition (can't remembe...

Something to try

wai- Since you have a beautiful and expensive boat anchor (Hammerli 208 that goes full auto), here is something to try before you throw it overboard (so to speak) - I have an early model 208, the one with the selector screw to switch between 1000 and 1360 grams trigger weight. Its serial number is G...

.22 short ammo

I've used CCI 22 CB (0026 in 100-round plastic box) and CCI 22 Target Short (0037 in 100-round plastic box) in my OSP. The CB is a little inconsistent in power. Some rounds are "softer" than average and some are "harder". Occasionally, the soft rounds will not cycle the action fu...

H280 strengthening bar

OK, going back a bit in this thread to the "strengthening bar" mentioned by PaulT- I've picked up (purchased) one of those bars from Larry's Guns. It was a recycled item and came without instructions or screws. Anyone here actually installed one? Does it just screw on or is some initial pr...

Correction

Earlier, I noted, "Speaks well for the Unique, and to a slightly lesser extent, the Tri-ace." On re-examing the results, I see that in fact the Tri-ace did slightly better overall than the Unique. That is, it shot X-ring groups with 21 of the 34 tested lots of ammunition, as opposed to the...

Morini makes excellent grips and for the GSP.
Others to check with would be Randall Fung (sometimes on TT), Arnie Vitarbo, and Dick Horton (latter three all in USA).

record score

Now that "record" was part of a team score. In the individual match, he did not shoot quite as high. Can the score from the team match be extracted as an individual record?
In no way am I demeaning his achievement, just wondering about the technicalities of establishing a record.

.22LR ammunition

Fascinating results on that site, Tor. Speaks well for the Unique, and to a slightly lesser extent, the Tri-ace. They seem to do well with a wider selection of ammo than the GSP. Still, with the "right" ammo, the GSP produces a very tight group, too. I'm unfamiliar with the brand of ammo i...

Ammo for GSP

From my experience, the GSP is one of the least fussy target pistols when it comes to ammo. I owned one for about 25 years and fed it a diet consisting primarily of Remington standard velocity and Winchester T22. I also shot Imperial Target (both CIL and IVI) and Gevalot standard velocity and a few ...

Broken Bullet Insert Lever (BIL)

Nothing for it except to replace the lever, again! Happened to me, too, recently. Did you see, on page 3 of the "Matchguns MG-2" thread, my analysis of the cause of BIL breakage? If you haven't, or for others that might not have seen it, I repeat it here: To avoid damaging (stretching or b...
