Re: Steyr LP2 vs Walther LP500 Basic/Economy

The mechanical Steyr has to be the most reliable and easy to service of anything ever made.

The firing pin or just the spring?

Re: Is the Hammerli 150 a difficult pistol?

Once the firing pin is released, you can set the trigger and dry fire as much as you want. You only have to put an empty in the first time. Setting the set trigger hammer (accelerator) does not cock the firing pin.

Re: Is the Hammerli 150 a difficult pistol?

I don't find the 150 hard to use. I shot my best score with one. A fellow shooter has a newer Walther FP500. From the outside, it looks like the two might well share some parts, but have not had the need to source anything for mine. My only.issue has been sticky extraction sometimes, but my Toz has ...

No, you are not too old. I shot my personal best 577 a couple of months ago. I have been doing this for 5 decades. Some physical training, but mostly concentration on every facet of every shot is what it takes to score well.

As usual, GWhite has the best answer. I have actually seen some good results with the second joint on the trigger, but it can't be said ideal.

Re: Scuba tank setup for air pistol cylinder refills

I used a scuba tank for 3 decades, and still have it. A year ago I bought a Hill pump to try. I read the directions and pumped slow and steady to get to 200 bar in my two Steyrs. Hill stated to pump slow enough not to feel any heat buildup. I had read about moisture issues, and was concerned to star...

Re: Scuba tank setup for air pistol cylinder refills

I used 80 cubic foot tank for years. It goes down a little every time, but you probably get 3 months shooting every day before it won't get 100 shots from a fill.

Going to a higher pressure tank would certainly be risky without an intermediate regulator, of which I have not seen anyone use.

Re: FWB P8X vs Morini CM 200EI

I have a P8X and a Steyr E10-M.

I like that they both have a grip that adjusts on all axis to the barrel. Much more easy than rasp and putty.

I like the mechanical triggers. I have yet to see one fail in competition.

I don't shoot one better than the other.

The Comp 10 looks like a Snowpeak PP20 that was rebranded. I would certainly pick the Hammerli over it.

I bought a spare regulator to have on hand. That way if one fails, you have your choice to send in or rebuild your faulty unit.

I will second that pure silicone grease is a worthless grease for metal to metal.
The Superlube with ptfe is worlds better, especially on cylinder threads.

Re: Should I Join USA Shooting?

I found (for the most part) USA shooting is interested in training and financial support of elite level shooters that might make an Olympic team. As far as an organization that simply encourages marksmanship, look no further than the CMP, as it seems more welcoming to every level of shooting. I like...

Re: Pellet Weight for Steyr Velocity Adjustment?

I have a dead regulator I swapped out from another pistol. I'm working on a drawing to fabricate a pressure tester, and I had hoped to finish making that before overhauling any regulators. I guess I will rebuild the first one and swap it onto this pistol and see how it goes... As long as you put th...

Re: Pellet Weight for Steyr Velocity Adjustment?

Probably just replacing the two piston o-rings and cleaning out the inside, especially around the inlet seal of the piston would put you back on track in 10 minutes of your time.

Putting velocity at 150 m/s gets about 160 shots per fill.

Re: Pellet Weight for Steyr Velocity Adjustment?

Steyr used to use R10 7.0 4.49mm.
I have tried everything from 480-540 fps. They all are quite accurate. I got my best groups at 523 fps average. That being said, it feels better, and I get more feedback at an average of 493, (150 m/s) which is where I have left mine.

I shot FP with a guy that started lifting to get bulked up.
His scores really went down before he quit.

I think general fitness will help your scores, but building muscles might be a detriment. Look at some if the very petite women in World Cup, and the scores they post.

Re: RWS R 10 Match Pellets Availability

I have long suspected the RWS Meisterkugeln where just R10 that are just not weight sorted. They are a one holer out of my Steyr, and less expensive.
I was once like you, but after exhaustive testing, I have come to find that my pellets are not important outside of decimal scoring.
