Re: Izhmash CM-2 Cadet/Youth

Late to the party, but: You'll know more when you get the rifle in hand. There might be an adapter to put Annie rear iris on the Ishmash sight, though I saw one on the net somewhere, but ... Front sights: I was able to locate Izzi-size front inserts in the clear acrylic type. Measure the ones you ge...

Re: When did rapid fire target changed from "men" to circles

In most places, firearms laws are pretty stupid, so I wouldn't point to them for justification. In Massachusetts, all pistols are legally defined as "firearms". Rifles & shotguns are not "firearms." The $2000 target pistols I shoot are NOT "weapons". They were not ...

Re: When did rapid fire target changed from "men" to circles

Read 'On Killing_ The Psychological Cost of Learning to Kill in War and Society' by Lt Col (Ret.) Dave Grossman for a great understanding of why modern armed forces train their soldiers using human-type targets, but youth groups such as 4H Shooting Sports train their students with bullseye-style tar...

Marky-d No feathers ruffled here, appreciate the different ways to look at things. I can't write 'simple' without a whole lot of effort, and I was in a hurry for these comments, so no doubt it looked like I was in a blather. You have a fine diagram. It is not what I was trying to illustrate initiall...

Re: Quarter size groups at 25 yards!! MOA vs U.S. Coin Diame

There's lots of ways to define and measure accuracy, some of them quite complex. I could use three or five or more shots per group. I could use actual or average Center-to-Center bullet hole distance. Or I could measure and calculate Average-To-Center. I have used the 'ON TARGET' program to calculat...

[quote="Chris__Colorado"]7 If you email me the file, I can post a link and host it in the electronic Airgun Reference Library. http://www.targettalk.org/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=56517 I'd prefer just to have the jpg file linked, Pilk won't allow xls or doc files, says they are risky. Downlo...

Quarter size groups at 25 yards!! MOA vs U.S. Coin Diameters

This is similar to a recent post which I could not fully view because my Excel is too ancient. I could not upload an xls file so could not include the various formulas, but included a jpg for those not wanting to download anything. The attached .doc file can be transformed into Excel without much fu...

Re: Going F-class: Shooting rest to get?

The SEB rest is a fine piece of machinery, and quite beautiful. Its joystick travel seems to be designed exactly for the ARA 50-yard target where the shooter moves from bull to bull, 25 bulls plus sighters, all the while doping the wind. It works for longer distances. too, but its limit of travel me...

Re: NEW SCATT MODEL???

After reading and viewing all the Scatt vs Trace comparisons I could find, I am convinced Scatt Basic best fits my needs and budget and quality expectations. Since the average daily cost of the various Scatt units depends on their unit life, I would like to know what life to expect from a given set ...

Re: Daisy 499b Program Startup - ideas needed

Thanks, everyone, for your help and ideas. I think with your help and my prior searches I have the basics of using the Daisy 499b for youth group shooting. I believe at least one adult for the new BB gun group needs to be willing and able to at least swap parts from time to time on the 499 air rifle...

Re: Daisy 499b Program Startup - ideas needed

It's more fun if the projectile goes where its aimed, mostly, whether shooting BB or high power. Whether any of this small group of kids get the competitive bug is immaterial to the program. Doubtful any of this group will go beyond trying to hit somewhere in the bull. As I suspected, replies show t...

Daisy 499b Program Startup - ideas needed

My friend wants to start a BB gun program for his Cub Scouts, using the Daisy 499b. We think our gun club will buy 5 BB guns. He has a place to shoot, and is committed to this for at least several years, then the equipment will revert to the gun club. I will be a silent assistant, having two years e...

Re: Air Rifle Silhouette

The air rifle of choice over at that site is the Air Arms TX200 springer. (not the carbine) http://www.pyramydair.com/s/m/Air_Arms_TX200_MkIII_Air_Rifle/174 Like the specs on this one, and the fact it is a under-lever makes it that much better. Now if it was available in a ambi stock it would be a ...

Re: Barrel upgrade for CZ T200

My T200 shoots as about as well as most Precision air rifles, shooting from a rest. The difference in competition at the top scores, imho, is not in the barrel, it is in the ergonomics of fit that the Precision air rifles give the shooter. The only problem for me is its size - it is too small for me...

Did anyone shoot CO2 in RT events?

The book I presented in my previous post has an interesting take on CO2. The author says do not use it in RT air rifles, because the cooling effect of the CO2 release chills the action so much, and the RT shots are fired so quickly, that any CO2 air rifle would not work for RT. The pressure of each ...

Shooting at Moving Targets by R J Maddison

I ran across this book available for download in pdf format. Haven't fully read it yet but so far it is very interesting. It is a Draft, from 19 April 2011. 245 pages, so it is comprehensive. Author is R J Maddison, former British National Coach for Moving Target Shooting from 1988. Title: Shooting ...

...4-H isnt the only avenue to teach youth gun safety or responsibility. GS I have to agree with the above. Many of our students are in the Rifle Program as a family activity. I called them 'the cousins' - groups of actual cousins come and go within our program. Their have their own reasons for par...

Re: What's the problem with 4-H?

After coaching two seasons, and assisting three more, I have some definite ideas about 4H Shooting Sports. First, 4H has too many irons in the fire to focus exclusively on shooting sports. In Texas, the county ag office administers 4H for a county. Depending on the staffing level and the efficiency ...

Thanks for the replies. I will suggest to the gun club at the next annual meeting about getting Orion, though without electricity possible at our range we will have to score off site or drag along a generator. Best I can tell from reading all the rules, there is no 'X' score possible using the USAS/...

Need Help Scoring USAS/NRA 50 targets for 4H Program

What is the correct way to score USA/NRA 50 rimfire targets fired at 50 feet? Our tools currently include: a ".22 inner Gauge", measures .2225, plus an "Eagle Eye" scoring device, and a several first quality magnifiers, up to 12x magnification. We plan to buy a '.22 USAS Outward ...
