Re: Adding weight to Anschutz air rifle

2.5 lbs is a lot of mass, but you could make a lead weight (you'll need lead, sand, oil, an old steel pot and a hot fire) to put inside the handle of a plastic pistol grip, you could use some stick on wheel weights along the rifle stock, and that should get you pretty close to 2.5 lbs. Stick on whee...

Re: Using the Hammerlli AR20 for a year

That's really a couple questions, the LW barrel verses non LW barrel, the sporter class versus precision class, and whether or not it is worth it to buy a new entry level precision air rifle compared to a used precision FWB/Walther/Anschutz. The Crosman Challenger with LW barrel will hit the 10 ring...

Re: Hammerli AR20 Rear Sight

Now I feel slightly concerned that my rear sight spun out freely from the dealer.

Re: Hammerli AR20 Rear Sight

That's the same as I have, Walther makes an extended diopter tube to fit that model, yours must just be screwed in very tight.

Re: Hammerli AR20 Rear Sight

My AR20 came with a Walther Basic Competition rear sight.

The iris screws out counter clockwise.

Some of the CMP pictures for the AR20 show a different rear sight, of which I have no experience.

Re: Air Rifles

Take this for what it is worth, from a guy who isn't a very good shooter who happens to shoot with very good shooters... I've seen shooters with smaller/thinner body types sort of gravitate to Walther, LG300 and 400s. Also well represented here for teens or thinner shooters are Tesro air rifles. I'v...

Re: Better value

Birch makes a nice stock, but I've never seen one with a grip area that steep. I've seen birch stocks for Mosin Nagants, budget Mausers, and M14/M1As. It's functional wood, although not anywhere as pretty as walnut or hard maple.

Re: New sight for Hammerli AR20 ?

On my daughter's AR20 we added a rear sight riser and then drilled and tapped the barrel (?) for a tall old school dovetail I guess you could call it a "barrel housing" or "barrel shroud" for lack of more precise words. The monolithic aluminum frame has that built in "bloop...

Re: Unusual storage problem

Get a sealable plastic tub, Tupperware or Rubbermaid, and a tub of disposable RV dehumidifier desiccant. Haul everything to and from the range in the tub, clean the pistols with EEZOX after use, and put back in the tub. The desiccant will absorb the bulk of moisture from the atmosphere inside the tu...

Using the Hammerlli AR20 for a year

To start off, I'm not a world class shooter, I don't have a coach, and I participate in 10m air rifle on my own dime and on my own time. I didn't grow up with training options available, and didn't even consider air rifle until an NRA High Master told me that I really needed to pick up an air rifle ...

Re: shooting to the right

If the groups don't move when the sights are adjusted, there are two possible problems. 1, sights are broken. This has been addressed by previous replies. 2, the shooter has an incorrect sight picture. Could be habit, could be an astigmatism, etc. As an experiment, shoot opposite hand, opposite eye,...

Re: Rehabilitative Air Rifle/Pistol Program, need ideas

too2tuff, The athletic director got back to me, so far they have exactly one person interested in air rifle. They'll ask again this coming week, so we might get a few more folks. I've already bought some cheep delrin cutting boards to use in pellet traps until we can get something more permanent set...

Re: Rehabilitative Air Rifle/Pistol Program, need ideas

The chain of command dictated that 10m air rifle/pistol scores be submitted for the 2015 Warrior Games, and the local WTU doesn't have any air rifle or pistol programs at all. I have no experience with the silhouette game, I picked up air rifle to enhance my High Power training, so bull targets are ...

Re: Rehabilitative Air Rifle/Pistol Program, need ideas

There are shooting clubs all over Bavaria, but that doesn't make them automatically available to assist. The shooting club hours for the two clubs that are almost within spitting distance of the gate do not meet during duty hours. For what it is worth I will try to join the closer of the two clubs i...

Re: Rehabilitative Air Rifle/Pistol Program, need ideas

That's the goal, rehabilitation. Working on balance, concentration, and focus. Giving the shooters a way to measure their progress and rebuild their confidence in mind and body. I wish I were a world class coach with a world class facility to do that, but I'll be lucky to get a hallway to convert in...

Re: Rehabilitative Air Rifle/Pistol Program, need ideas

I guess I should update my location. I PCS'd to Germany this summer, and time really flies when you are busy. No practical way to tap into JROTC/ROTC procurement programs since they fall under Cadet Command which is a part of Human Resource Command and the WTU falls under either AMEDD (I think) or F...

Re: Rehabilitative Air Rifle/Pistol Program, need ideas

I had the direct go through the list of precision and sporter air rifles offered through the CMP. The athletic director balked at the cost of a 600 dollar Alfa pistol and 840 dollar AR20, so PCP isn't exactly an option. Right now the most expensive piece of athletic equipment the rehabilitative prog...

Rehabilitative Air Rifle/Pistol Program, need ideas

The Warrior Transition Unit on my base I work is looking to stand up an air rifle and air pistol program as part of the rehabilitative sports program. They reached out to the JROTC air rifle coach, who directed them to me since he's smack dab in the middle of the busiest time of the season. I met wi...

Re: keeping warm

military surplus poly pro long john bottoms, a glove on her support hand, and a watch cap.

The shooting sweater under the jacket is enough for her torso, so increasing the insulation on her legs, hand, and head should be enough to keep her toasty.

Hope this helps.

Re: Need help, again...

emoky, I do not know what casual shooting opportunities exist in Israel, but if you want a non-competitive shooting experience I would have an open discussion about that with the coach (or coaches) at the shooting club you've been attending. Every coach wants to train the next National or Olympic go...
