Re: need advice for spotting scope

You don't say which KOWA you are using, but more power is not always the answer. Sometimes the answer is in larger objective lens (letting in more light). See if you can find someone with a Kowa with a larger 80-85mm objective that you can look through. I can see bullet holes at 100 yards with at 15...

as above, or we used a piece of the padded moleskin with self stick backing. Whatever you use to start them feeling the right position, make sure to emphasize that they pay attention to the "feel" so they can eventually establish the position without the aid.

Re: Eyeglasses and shooting

No one can see the target and the front sight both in focus at the same time. Younger shooters have the ability to "accommodate" (rapid refocusing between two objects) which the brain can interpret as both being in focus. Unfortunately, as we age, accommodation becomes much slower. Having ...

Re: Air Rifle Balance Question

Personal preference, and it changes as you age and your body can no longer handle a heavy forward balance. At 72 I've moved the balance more towards my support hand (due to degenerating discs in my back).

Re: Doing gym with air rifle in mind

Good weight training advice above, but remember rifle shooting is an endurance sport. Add in some running, bicycling, swimming, cross country skiing, or roller skating a couple time a week.

Re: Question about sight risers?

The shooter is shooting pretty good, but I noticed that the rear sight is almost clicked all the way to the bottom. Is there any logic to why the rifle is set up this way? Just a guess, but her old coach may have added the rear riser to get a better head/neck position for her, and since when still ...

Re: Trigger feeling too heavy

I am guessing that I somehow tense up some other muscles in my hand so much that this also makes it harder to use the trigger finger. Generally at some point during the match I manage to "figure it out" and the shots feel really light and I get relatively good scores (above 90). But that ...

That "33 feet of clear space" doesn't exist at our house For many years I shot in a single car garage, about 25 feet diagonally. Much better than not shooting at all, as all the basics are the same and only small sight changes need to be made when going to 33'. the only other program I kn...

Once he has good trigger control and sighting ability (including follow thru), go to offhand with a larger target (no scoring rings, no sling). Make it big enough that he can have success, then go to kneeling with sling and somewhat smaller target. Finally go to prone with sling, and standard target...

Re: sight riser question

But wasn't a higher rifle more popular in the past? How far is the "past"? When I began shooting 3P, it was with a Winchester 52. No adjustable anything. You had to make your position conform to the rifle. By the time I was out of school (1968), we were seeing more Anschutz 1413s (with ad...

Primarily this:
your head crammed down on the sights because the supporting hand can't lift the rifle high enough for the head to be in a relaxed position?

Re: Handstops, Mine is "killing" me

Thus the rifle "lays" more onto the fleshy base of my thumb rather than in my hand. This is exactly as it should be, and helps moderate (if not eliminate) wrist pain which comes from the hand gradually bending down when the rifle is in the palm of the hand. Jensen & Sons made a smalle...
