Re: USA Shooting Link to NRANews Cam & Co. Sportsman Cha
I sent the follow as an email to Kevin Neuendorf at USA Shooting. No response, but I would not expect one with the holiday weekend upon us. And, enjoy the three day weekend! Good shooting, Brian _________________________________ Dear Kevin, I am a member of USA Shooting and the NRA, the latter memb...

A dog shock collar, with the remote cleverly hidden in your loved ones pocket, is the obvious, and ISSF legal solution. Alas, regrettably, the ISSF has taken that training aid away... 6.7.3.4 ...communication systems are prohibited during competitions and any training, except when they are used by ...

I should think that a felt cleaning pellet administered from the spectator area from a small, low-powered pistol to the buttocks of the 9-shooting idiot would circumnavigate this rule. Not exactly coaching. No wired nor wireless nor direct verbal communication. Just a little 'OUCH!' on the backside...

Great advice if you have the all knowing mentor. He doesn't have to be all knowing. He only needs to know more than you. I found a mentor at my club when I showed up for my first postal league match. He was far from a pistol know it all - primarily a rifle shooter, many time state champion, who onl...

Forgive me if you think my comments harsh, but this thread and way too many others just like it have become an internet reality show. The public gnashing of teeth and begging for help on the same tired old subject elicits the same responses from the same people. After you have read all the sometime...

Re: Practice vs Real Match
IMO, it's just the increased stress of an actual match. Try hypnosis. I know competitors in other sports who have used the approach and it's worked. Make sure you use a trained/certified hypnotist. It is stress, but you dont need hypnosis to overcome it. Stress is self induced i.e. you create it yo...

Re: Practice vs Real Match
I find it very strange that whenever I compete, my match scores are always much much lower than my scores at home. I set up my home exactly according to ISSF standard (AP 10M, with the right length and height of the target), good lighting. I don't have a trolley, so I put wooden blocks where the tr...

Brian, this is a troll, right? You've just opened a floodgate of hairy-assed opinions. lol. Not a troll. I had a conversation with guy who has what he claims is an excellent shooter/optometrist in CT. I didn't ask him about this exact issue, but I do recall his saying that it wasn't as simple a pro...

Wrong! Whether you shoot right or left, you probably still need a lens that pulls the focus of your eye to the front sight. It can be added to a prescription that corrects astigmatism or other errors. Correct. I'm wondering just where the best place is to locate the focal point of the lens so that ...

Hi Roger and Tony, While I'm able to quickly get to the right lens point (likely due to my stylin frames) you are right that it is a distraction. I like the idea of a single focus lens in an old pair of frames. Will likely get that worked on a Walmart over the weekend. Thanks for the info. But for c...

This is a slightly different issue and if a moderator wants to make it a separate topic, that's fine with me. I wear progressive lenses. by looking through the lens at the right position, the front sight is in focus while the target is blurred. My head position is fine and neck is not strained. Anyo...

Coaching Boston and Northern Vermont
I'm loving my new Benelli Kite. Have been using coaching resources on USA Shooting and the Target Shooting Canada web sites. I've gone from personal best in the 340s for 40 shot matches to regularly scoring in the low to mid 350s with 355 as my PR. For 60 shots I've gone up about 15 points to a pr o...

The Kite is wonderful. Only one glitch. One of the cylinders has a leak. Sent it back and will get a replacement. Folks a Larry's are quite nice and helpful. My groupings are better with the kite. Now to eliminate those lapses that lead to 6 ring hits. lol So far the pistol itself is a flawless perf...

The Kite arrived today from Larry's in Maine. Nice case, two cylinders and a Kite with a med. LH grip. The grip was too snug until I extended the shelf slots downward by around 1/8th inch. I also had to round two edges that were digging into my palm. Feels quite comfortable and stable. Compared to m...
