Thinking = too long

I agree with the other posters who said that when you start "thinking" about your sight picture, wobble, hold, it's too long. I did an experiment with myself and tried a couple of different methods last night. I tried lowering the gun and basically firing within a second or two of aquiring...

Sight unseen...scary!

I bought my Hammerli 480 sight unseen and had a few very fraught months with it. It arrived in a briefcase with the original foam that it would have been shipped in. For a compressed air gun, it was cheap and I had steeled myself not to imagine that it would be in sparkling condition. Overall I supp...

coaching for the coachless..

Hi Mike. It's a real problem not having a coach in your club but I'll pass on some advice I received recently from my club coach. Firstly however, let me tell you the mistakes I made. I used to come to my session, grab a wad of cards and just go shoot. I'd shoot and shoot, getting very variable resu...

Trigger technique

I did my weekly shoot last night and tried a couple of different approaches to trigger activation. First I tried my old technique of taking up the first stage as I lowered the gun into the aiming area. I had reasonable success with this. Next I did as the Club Prez suggested and left the trigger alo...

20 mins coaching = best group ever

Hi Everyone I was at my regular practise shoot last night and as I was going into the range I asked the club president to come in and give me some coaching after I had done my sighters. He watched me shoot a 5 shot card and then proceeded to disassemble my technique. I was holding my arm too rigid, ...

Tennis Elbow and Pysiotherapy

Hi All. I just wanted to let you all know about a condition I have had which has been getting progressively worse and definitely affecting my shooting (10M Pistol). I began getting sharp pain in my elbow, especially when gripping and lifting. I self diagnosed "Tennis Elbow" and bought an a...

Good sex?

Gee, when I have good sex I want to sleep, not shoot :-) I have found a lot of information on this thread very useful and I will attempt to incorporate it into my shooting. One aspect that I have seen touched on is "negative reinforcement" and I saw a perfect example at the range last week...

and another thing....

Isn't it hard to get that sequence of actions down pat?! I make a mental checklist but I often get distracted by a stray thought. I make my best shots when I lower the gun whilst exhaling, as suggested in this thread. One of the things that the club captain impressed on me early was "if you can...

Revised Sight Picture Images

I have incorporated the feedback i got and here's the result. I apologise in advance for dialup users, this will be slow loading. I did two versions of rear sights because the gun I use (Feinwerkbau Mod2) has a really broad rear sight blade. Other guns may have a narrower blade so I included a narro...

Thanks 4 the feedback

Great feedback, thanks Rob. I will incorporate this into another image and upload it. I'll also do a version without the target but with a slight blur on the rear sight.

My sight visualisation image

Hi Chaps, following the advice on another post I found a host for my image. If the BB code version does not work then I have included a link also. Any feedback on my image is welcome. I'd like to make it an effective training aid. The best way to print it is to insert it into a Word document and re-...

I have only just begun shooting at the age of 41. I have been interested in shooting since I was a kid nad whiled away many an afternoon shooting a friends break-barrel Diana air rifle. I have taken up shooting now because, like others, I have the time and money to participate. I doubt I would have ...

Sight Picture Image

Hi All. One of the members of my club made a "sight picture" image to hang on their wall and refer to. It sounded like a good idea to me and another member of the board did a similar thing as posted earlier in this thread. I have mine on the wall in front of my desk and it just helps to re...

Thanks nano. I am going to try the urethane o ring first as the old one appears to be urethane also. I spoke at length with the bearing shop and there seems to be little doubt either the urethane or nitrile ring would do the job. I have contacted the local distributor to request a seal kit for the g...

Thanks fot the tips :-) The threads seem yo be OK on the gun and both cylinders, just the seal is damaged. I'm going to replace it with a quality o ring and see how that goes. I have e-mailed the Hammerli distributors her in Australia so I hope they'll be able to source a manual for me.

Got my Hammerli today :-)

My Hammerli 480K arrived today and I must say I've been pretty lucky in a "sight unseen" purchase. The pistol is in very good condition but is missing the manual. The grip fits my hand very nicely and I have already adjusted it for maximum rake. The only downside is that the main seal for ...

I think the risks are low if you take the time to wash your hands after handling the pellets. As for breathing in dust etc, once again, the risks are low. There wouldn't be significant concerntrations in the air from a few pellets impacting a back board. I guess to answer your question, the best typ...

Thanks for the replies

Thanks for the replies. I have learned some more about the gun. It is a 480K model which was the second iteration of the 480 model, later replaced with the K2 model. I havn't actually seen this pistol but my club armourer will hopefully receive it this week in time for me to get it for my Monday sho...
