I suggest you google "US rifle barrel makers." There are many in the US and among the smallbore community Hart, Benchmark, Lilja, Bartlein and a few others have excellent reputations. Most will turn a barrel to your preferences as far as diameter and length are concerned. The common though...

prone with air rifle

Contrary to Soupy 44's post I think that you will find prone with an air rifle challenging. In my experience excellent junior shooters do not clean the USA air rifle target more than 50% of the time. Mike Barron

I think that you can probably find a 1413, 1813 or 1913 stock advertised for sale here in the "For Sale" forum. There may not be one there now but if you're patient, I'm sure you'll find one. An alternative is to call one of the stock makers like Fajen and find out if they have a 1413 patt...

Sling pressure II

I've been struggling with increased movement on the target for more than two years. It's increased from less then half the x-ring to the full x-ring and more and it has taken much of the fun out of shooting. I really thought that it was just age and that I was headed over the hill. About two weeks a...

Lones Wigger, the most successful US shooter of the past century and the winner of 10+ National Prone Championships, did not use a hook. He used the old Anschutz prone stock with the plastic buttplate which he raised slightly above the top of the cheekpiece. The only part of the buttplate that touch...

You are chasing a very elusive problem. When I came back to highpower 20 years ago after a layoff of 20 years, I saw that my movement was a constant 1/3 minute movement across the x-ring in a 10 to 4 direction. There was very little vertical or random movement and no obvious pulse beat. In the any s...

I agree with the dude on the 52E and with whoever mentioned Jeff Madison's Stock. (M. Werks LLC, Traverse City, Michigan) I saw Jeff's at Camp Perry and was impressed. The action is barrel mounted and the tuner sits underneath the receiver so it can be adjusted in position. The bare stock is about $...

Kevin Nevius who won the Smallbore prone Championship a few years ago has said that the thinks that the Walther 300 is the best smallbore action he has used/seen. He shoots one with a glued in after market barrel (maybe a Hart) with the action pillar bedded and glued into the stock. He's funny guy a...

I have been shooting Wolf - both Target and Match Extra - without misfires in both a 1913 and 2013. However, both rifles have had headspace, firing pins and springs checked. I recently tested 4 lots of ME at 50 yds. with the best lot producing a 20 shot group that measured about 14.5mm OTO. Not good...

The trend is towards lighter, shorter barrels. Smallbore prone is a grueling discipline whether it's International or NRA and barrel weight/balance point is really a matter of your own stamina and strength. If you as fresh and focused for the last 10 shots as you were for the first, you've probably ...

Edinkillie Sport Services, a UK firm, has the most complete selection of buttplates I've ever seen. The prices will knock your socks off. Maybe a little less over here because of the VAT in the UK. Some years ago I bought a Pedersen buttplate from Gunsmithing Inc. abut I don't know where to get them...

One of the advantages of the Knobloch/Champion glasses is they permit a shooter to experiment with different corrections. It may be that you will shoot better with a sharp target and a fuzzy aperture. There's nothing sacred about the sharp aperture/fuzzy target. A lot of shooters shoot very well wit...

You're chasing the Holy Grail. There maybe some young shooters with excellent eyesight who can focus from the front sight to the target and back again so quickly that both appear clear and sharp. But this senior citizen can't even remember being able to do that. Reducing the rear aperture will give ...

Many of the M75s came with Redfield Globe front sights. I have some inserts for that model. It would be helpful if you also measured the length of the sight.

He got the best one in stock and it's a good target - less ...

CBIs and Air Rifle Accuracy

For the past 5 years or so our rifle team has been using the recommended CBIs (clear barrel indicators), a piece of bright nylon filament inserted in the breech and pushed into the barrel so that it clears the muzzle. Our shooters pull these out from the muzzle when they are ready to shoot and often...
