Got the pistol back.....

Hello to all,
I've eventually got my pistol back from Austria. The new barrel is mat black. The little issue are the scratches noticeable on the barrel surface. Curiously more visible on the pictures than on real.
If you need or want other pictures, only ask.
Next step ....the range, then the Ransom Rest to get the best reloading data.
Have a nice day.
Greetings from Brittany.
Jacques

Am curious as to why they put those spiral grooves on the exterior of the barrel?

I do notice that they cut it as a straight tube, no skinny section. Congratulations ! Let us know how it functions.

Cheers Jim

In firearms terminology it's called fluting. The main purpose is to reduce weight and helps to disperse barrel heat.

Exact Kevinweiho and good morning to all.
In fact, I really didn't have confidence in that reduced central part of the original barrel. It's the place where I bulged the old barrel. Therefore, when discussing with Viktor, the engineer in charge at IGB Austria, he said that everything was possible from fully cylindrical to a copy of the original barrel or with flutes straight or helical. Different colors are also possible, Gold, blue... Mine is black mat from the plasma nitration surface hardness process...
In my application, I mean shooting lead WC bullets at 25 metres, it's not really necessary to enhance heat dissipation, it's just for the look and for me to show off at the range. It triggers questions as well.
Next step is the Ransom Rest at the range....
Have good time.
A moderator could move this topic to the third page of my previous one here http://ttorg.targettalk.net/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=54883 , it may help understand the bulged barrel soap opera :-)

How unfortunate, it looks like the put the rifling on the outside accidentally.

Yes SamEEE, you are right. Crazy they are those Austrian to imagine hollow bullets moving around the barrel rather than inside....
By the way, here are my results with the Ransom rest...
Regards.

Hello David,
They are home loads. From right to left, I increased the weight of powder by 0.1 gram step, from 0.14 up to 0.17 of Vectan BA10 that is similar to Vihtavuori N310.
Cases are Starline.
Primers are Winchester.
Bullets are H&N HB .355, 148 gr either Gold (Teflon) or Match. Respectively https://www.hn-sport.de/fr/reloading/wc ... -148-gr-hs or https://www.hn-sport.de/fr/reloading/wc-hb-357-148-gr-l
Strange that H&N seems to discontinue the .355 model. I sent them an email to ask....
Greetings.
